i flashed my sons 360 about 18months ago and he plays, backups of his games but now new backups wont work, i have attempted to flash the same hitachi drive again on the pc i originally flashed it on, only to come unstuck at the first hurdle when the pc boots up, the system locks at the sata recognition stage, i am using a virgin install of win xp with jungle flasher, slax cd, 079 unlock.
i have even tried a vt6421 pci card only to get the same results, i was hoping to use a samsung drive and spoof it to the hitachi key but still get the same results can anyone tell me where im going wrong..
i can tell you where youre going wrong-its a hitachi! lol. i just did one last night on the same pc i did 2 other hitachis and it gave me fits. it seems(at least to me) that you have to get creative with your methods. what finally got me through last night was starting out on the via card till it dumped, then using onboard sata to flash. this was also the first time i didnt have to use my slax cd for mode b, but try mode b in JF. im assuming since youve done it on the same pc before, you will be able to again just be persistant. sorry i cant give a more step-by-step answer, but i dont think one exists for hitachi's
thanks anyway chap cant understand why i cant get the sammy drive to recognise but id rather flash the hitachi again as its the only one that will recognise wave 4 without boot cd
I'm having exactly the same problem - my PC doesn't get past the POST.
Any tips on what kind of 'creative' methods might work? If I turn on the 360 after the POST, say when windows has booted, will it work? SATA drives are hot-swappable aren't they? Will disconnecting my IDE drives help or choosing a different SATA channel on my motherboard?
I updated a 79 last night to 1.51... You don't need to use Slax..... read the Jungle flasher guide as it tells you how to get a flashed Hitachi into Mode B... I have a connectivity kit...
All I did was eject the drive with the button on the kit... when the drive is open turn off the power to the drive and turn it back on....the drive should close and then your drive is in Mode B... If you are powering the drive with your 360 then it is a little different so read the guide if you are doing that....
Erm.. the eject trick to get into mode b only works for previously flashed drives.
I've read the jungleflasher tutorial and i'm not using slax.. but i'm not even getting to the point of using either anyway - my computer is freezing while doing the SATA detection during the POST.
Agree with uturn, hitachis are friggin aqward. I suggest you go with the spoofing option. First I assume you have the orginal firmware from you first flash? If not, you will need to connect the Hitachi up first and dump it.
Make sure you have your via drivers unistalled. So make sure you hvae removed them in add/remove programs then...
To remove the VIA driver:
1. Disable VIA card in Device Manager.
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers and remove "viamraid.sys" or "vsmraid.sys".
3. Re-Enable VIA card in Device Manager.
4. Re-Boot PC.
Then, open you OFW as source & your sammy 1.61 as target and click spoof source to target.
Then go to the MTK Flash 32 tab and click sammy unlock, then click write.
