Hi hope you can give me some advice. My wife is treating me an Xbox this christmas. I'd like any suggestions on where we should go for the console and what model (elite, arcade etc). And as I'm sure this has been asked could anyone link me to a guide/Thread for Modding the console I saw a thread or two saying mod chips are not the best way to go rather flashing the drive??.
It will depend which DVD DRIVE you get with the console. Supposedly the new systems have a Lite on drive that is not flashable (unmoddable).
I can give 3 suggesions:
1. Buy a used xbox which has an older model of drive
2. Look for a store which has xbox that are new but manufactured a while ago
3. Buy new xbox, check what drive it has, if it's unmoddable return it and see suggesion 1 and 2
after you get the xbox we can help you how to flash it depending on which drive it has.

If the 360 was made in Aug 2009 up till present day then most likley it'll have the new unflashable drive.
I suggest like above to get two machines. One for offline playing with burnt games and another totally legit for games you bought/rent/whatever for MP.
You can swap the hard drives around no problem, just make sure you don't have unreleased games on your profile if you connect to Live on either machines.

Hi Again, I've had the xbox since Xmas very happy with it! Got the COD3 world at war game and played it away online. So I will not mod or otherwise mess with the xbox. But for the sake of not wasting 50 quid on crap games I will invest in another for running backups offline. So ignoring the fact I got an xbox where do I start on getting my backups going. Can I buy a preflashed or 2nd hand ?
