article published on 9 November, 2009

According to an investment note from HMC Investment Securities, Samsung is ready to deal the death blow to Windows Mobile by phasing out the mobile operating system in favor of the open source Android. I wouldn't expect full windows/linux/osx on a phone until phones running the atom processor are a common place. Also, none of those OSs are optimized for the ease of use of phones. Even if they were running those OSs full, they would need a complete GUI overhaul...

There are already atom-based phones, but they are still pricy...this should change by 2012. Granted, Windows 7 would need some tweeks and additions to make it a good phone OS, but this wouldn't take too much work...it is already setup to be run from a touchscreen with no keyboard or mouse, it will run on resolutions as low as 640x480, and it has both hibernate and sleep support.
