I know that firmware updates are generally not recommended, but I imagine that many upcoming games (such as New Super Mario Bros. Wii) will require the most recent firmware.
Assuming this is the case, could someone please post step-by-step instructions as to how to reinstall the Homebrew Channel after updating, along with links to which files are necessary?
I would be very appreciative, and I'm sure many others would as well. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the helpful response.
I've done some looking around for information, and I can't seem to find any concise, all-inclusive guide on the matter. I was suggesting that perhaps a member of the AfterDawn community who is more Wii-savvy than I would be willing to summarize the process.
I'm sorry if my relative lack of expertise on the subject is offensive to you, but there's no need to be snarky about it if you don't actually have anything to contribute to the discussion I'm proposing.
If there is a well-known guide to the process that I've simply missed, then it actually would be quite helpful if you could offer a link to it.

right there on the first page. and before you do anything, read it THOROUGHLY.
Thanks! For whatever reason, the thread title didn't jump out at me as being what I was looking for.
I'm a little bit unclear on one point, though. It looks to me as if those instructions are in regards to installing HBC and 4.2 Shop Channel without actually installing Firmware 4.2. Is it actually possible to update to 4.2 and continue using HBC as before after reinstalling it?
Thanks a lot if you can clarify that.

i have 4.1U and my shop channel is updated to the latest. it's recommended to stay at 4.1 or under.
i have played NSMBwii PAL version earlier on configurable usb loader, and it works with no problems. no updates whatsoever, but it was a scrubbed version, so the retail version may have an update.

Hmmm...if a scrubbed version can play on 4.1, would that suggest that it might be possible to boot a retail disc through Gecko OS or something similar without running the update?
I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the more advanced tinkering, so I'm basically looking for a way to be able to play upcoming retail discs and keep my HBC intact, with the least chance of screwing up my system in the process.

most of the time, the disc update is just an ios update. but still, it's always advisable to update using the same region.
you can try to block the updates with geckoOS/neogamma (obviously i don't use either one; usbloader is much easier for me), and see if it boots.
