Help with flashin a Hitachi drive - Do I need a connectivity kit?

I've read on a tutorial that I need a connectivity kit to link my Hitachi drive to my pc for flashing. Is this true or can I just do it without?

no u dont.. thats a waste of money. just make sure ur sata card or onboard sata is compatible and can read your drive..just use the power from your console. but make sure when u turn ur console on with the drive hooked up to the computer that ur computer is off before you power the computer..because if the drive is already hooked up to a system with power while the xbox is just now powering up it could give u the RROD but even if so it goes away as soon as u power cycle the drive and plug it back into ur xbox.

Thankyou for the response.

I understand the connectivity kit has a power switch for the drive, in the tutorial - there's a part where you need to switch off the power to the drive, would this be accomplished by pulling out the power lead of the drive and then plugging it back in when needed or is there another way (if not using the connectivity kit).
