I am considering buying an xbox 360 with a faulty hard-drive of ebay and replacing the hard-drive then flashing it and playing online. Would I get banned. Sorry for lack of knowledge but when flashing my lite-on 784.. it was recomended to retrive dvd-drive keys to spoof drive. Sorry for bother but if I can just replace hard-drive and flash it then play online could save $$$$$$$$$$

Not a problem, just read the stickies at the top of the page to find answers to common questions like that one.

Just remember, in order to do this you will need to be able to dump the original firmware from the faulty DVD drive. There's a chance you won't be able to do this if the drive is already bad (or else the seller would have replaced it themselves). Find out before you buy an expensive brick.

hi there welcome to my auction

'you are bidding on a faulty xbox 360.

the fault is with the dvd drive it will not play games
it powers up fine
this item is sold as spares or repair.

this auction is for console only.'

because it powers up does that mean it's okay to dump original firmware. Also why would I get banned online if i put iextreme latest firmware with stealth patch games the odds wouldn't be any different would they

The seller might of tried to mod it and deleted the firmware.

maybe but that takes more time. This is the item i'm on about http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Xbox-360-Arcade-Co...1QQcmdZViewItem would it be possible to replace the dvd drive with a new flashed one and continue as if it's a new xbox or I do i need to take into account any other considerations

Just because the drive powers up does not mean it can be reflashed to work. The drive and the box have a key that marry them to one another. The drive in the xbox hes selling probably has the key from a different xbox. So it will not play games, only dvds and music cds. You would need to extract the key off the xboxs motherboard then inject or spoof to the drive. Cooldude is right. Just look for a rrod box and fix and mod that.

I see some on Ebay for less than $50 for an RROD console, if you fix it, got a good deal on it

okay thanks for info which takes less time to learn extracting the key off the xboxs motherboard then inject or spoof to the drive or a rrod box and fix and mod that.

Id say the rrod fix and flash. Only a hand full of people can pull the key off the xbox. And its only certain xboxs that it can be done to. Start with Jtag.
