ok so i did the x clamp fix a long time ago on my xbox360 and it fixed it for about 3 months. But then after that i got the red rings again, i purchased a new xbox and left that one alone for a while. but i want the rrod xbox so i can flash it to play game backups. I don't think that too much is wrong with it because i turned it on the other day and played for like an hour with no problems, anyone know any tricks that i can try to get it to start working?
I end up using just 1 washer on the Heatsink side of the GPU for the 0102 Error. Also, I only do the X-Clamp fix on the GPU and leave the CPU alone. I overheat the GPU without heating up the CPU by covering it with a small cloth followed by the DVD drive on top. Then I lay the Fan over the DVD Drive to cool the CPU. I also cover the GPU Heatsink Extension (V2). Also, I find it a little weird that ever since I started using Arctic Silver Alumina (Ceramic Based) I haven't had Red Rings (0102)/E74 Errors return. Maybe that's just me.
I forgot to mention that I tightened the screws under the GPU not too tight. Since there is only 1 washer, you may get an immediate 3 RROD display and the system's fan won't even turn on after you tighten the screws. If/when this happens, just loosen the screws a little at a time until you get green lights. Good luck.
you said to leave the cpu alone, i already got rid of the xclamps so what should i do about the cpu? The way you worded it was kind of weird so there is only supposed to be one washer?
Well if you've already done the CPU then that's ok. Just leave it alone and leave the washers/screws as they are and rework the GPU. What kind of thermal paste are you using?
