My console has been sitting collecting dust ever since my Wii got softmodded and I rarely even use it to play backups too.

Was just wondering what steps I should take to get rid of the softmods I put in to bring it back to its original form

dont quote me on this but if you read the issues surrounding the 4.2 firmware upgrade installing this pretty much sets it to factory again doesnt it?

Can anyone confirm this for me please? I just wanna get rid of everything on it that I installed and had on it. I'm also on firmware 3.4.

If that doesn't work, I know people mentioned BootMii, but was never really explained on how to use it :/

Format the system memory. That wipes out everything and puts it back to an un-soft modded state.

formatting will only remove the channels and all VC games. you need to manually uninstall ios249 and install clean version of the system IOS.

ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure

got a whole lot more to list . . .

I wondered about this before and i read somewhere in the forum that formatting the wii's system memory could damage it as its been moddied?

I formatted a soft modded wii and then sold it as un-modded on ebay with no problems.

I had a feeling that would be the case. Someone else had said that to me too

How would I go about doin that? Also, I installed some more stuff than I think. If it helps, I followed this guide up to the Downgrading/Upgrading Firmware Guide section and stopped:

I remember also installing DVDX, but forgot how to do that.

I just wanna get rid of everything

Updating to 4.2 will remove the homebrew channel, cIOS's and most other homebrew except bootmii as far as I know. It defiantly kills the trucha bug and overwrites all the usual cIOS's with stubs.

Does every last thing need to be removed? Just deleting the homebrew channel and any VC games you've installed with wads should make any remaining tampering undetectable to anyone except those who were intending to mod it anyway.

Ah nice! Not to sound like a jerk, but I don't exactly know what cIOS's are nor trucha bug, but hey, if it gets rid of everything, cool!

Yeah I do wanna get rid of everything actually, but what about the things I installed in the guide I used? Will that go with everything else; deleted once I update to 4.2?

Updating to 4.2 firmware should overwrite all patched IOS and delete Preloader/cIOS249/cIOSCorp.

4.2 may also delete Bootmii/DVDx/HBC if you have an older version installed.

If you happen to have installed the newest versions of Bootmii/DVDx/HBC and it doesn't get deleted then just run the Hackmii installer using the 4.2 bannerbomb exploit and uninstall them.

After that I would do a system format and everything should be pretty much cleaned off it.
