I just bought a 20gb refurb hard disk at Micro center for $30. This thing is obviously not built and supported by Microsoft... it comes from China in a fairly plain cardboard box and does not have a genuine "Microsoft: sticker and logo. I bought it because I wanted the case to do a 250gb upgrade and I figured that I would just hang with the 20gb until I fill it up. It tells me that... as long as there are third party disks being sold at Major retailers... Microsoft is not going to ban your console for doing the hard drive mod. If so, the major retailers like Microcenter are going to have a lot of disgruntled customers demanding new consoles. Still, Microsoft might disable your drive like they proposed to do to the Datel memory cards, but they probably won't ban you for third party or homebrew disk solutions.

i doubt you could claim a new console as you know the risks when you choose to connect the modded hdd/or mod your firmware.
the mod works really well and im really happy with mine.
good luck with the mod and if they do ban anyone for the hdd we've had a good run.

MS doesnt give a crap about microcenter or anyone else or their customers cause if they didthen Datel wouldnt have gotten all their cards banned. MS cares about MS
If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

My point is that there are already third party refurb disks out there sold by major retailers. I did not mod anything. By the same token, there are already third party memory (Datel) out there. MS is unlikely to ban consoles for storage when their are retailers selling aftermarket products. There is no difference between you building your own disk or someone in china building an aftermarket refurb disk. There are no "authorized" refurb chinese disks in plain brown boxes being sold at retail... these are third party aftermarket disks. If Microsoft were to ban me due to this disk, I most certainly would take it up with Micro Center for selling me a bogus disk. And that is my point: Microsoft likely WONT ban accounts with hard disk mods because major retailers are selling unauthorized third party disks. It is just like the Datel deal except it is hard disks instead of memory cards. Sure, they might disable an unauthorized disk, but they are probably not going to ban someone with one.
I'm going to pop my chinese special open tonight and see what was put in there....

Their CARDS were banned... there CONSOLES weren't banned. That means that the worst MS is likely to do to Hard Disk homebrews is disable them. And yes, MS DOES give a crap about pissing off major retailers. Who do you think sells their stuff?

i understand your post but you still chose to buy a cheap chinese hdd knowing it was not officially endorsed by ms.you could tell this by the packaging and the obvious price difference.you made a concious choice by purchasing it then installing it.it's the risk you take.if you are really worried then sell it and buy a legit drive.

Not worried at all. If I were to get banned, I'd be looking to the company that sold it to me (Micro Center) to make it right. That's why I think that MS won't push XBL console bans on third party hard disks.
FYI, I don't "know" that this shouldn't work. I have read the EULA and I have seen online what MS believes to be try about hard disks and memory. I have seen what they did to memory. I believe that they may the same track with HDs. But I don't think they will ban consoles.

rdhood they would just say you chose to connect it.you can see it is not an official ms product.no one in their right mind would give you compensation refunds for this they would be mad and possibly bankrupt if they did.

yea i never said the consoles were banned dude relax. you bought a counterfeit product...so its your fault. its not an officially liscensed 3rd party item so as far as MS is concerned you are voiding your warranty the moment you put it on your 360. they wouldnt know this unless you were dumb enought to tell them or send it to them when repairing. I think if MS could disable these custom HDD they would have done it the sametime as the Datel cards cause all the stuff loaded on the cards can be done on a custom or even a MS HDD so they would have the same reasons.
Lets say your console is banned and you have this Counterfeit drive on there and you call Microcenter and tell them it got your 360 banned. they are going to ask you for proof and what can you tell them? that you got a message saying you were banned for violation of the TOS? that doesnt mean anything to them, for all they know you have a modded console or something else that got you banned.
dont buy ripoffs and you wont get ripped off man, simple as that. Better yet dont buy your counterfeit HDD from a retailer when you can get all the stuff to do it yourself for less than you are paying them to have some guy in the back do it for you.

i agree with stealthdf, just relax, enjoy and dont dream that its someone else's fault-its your fault same as if we get banned from live for firmware mod, backup games etc.you choose to use cheap hdd's others choose to modify firmware.we all took a cheaper option than the microsoft retail prices option
