So yea, I was thinking about how M$ sometimes just decides to do a ban wave like they just did on modders and I was wondering how to get around being banned while playing online. I know its impossible to be modded and play burned games online without there being a chance to be banned, and I know that even if you have the game disk you can still get banned if your mod is detected...

So basically my idea was to run Dual DVD drives in my Xbox 360. I will have my original drive flashed and buy a second drive to mount on the xbox case that has the original firmware for playing original games online. My plan is to mod my case to leave an opening in the back to just unplug the internal flashed drive and plug in the original drive to play an original game online, then switch back to the flashed drive for backups.

Is this possible? I know little about this firmware flash but it seems its DVD related only. Nothing else is modified right? So if the flashed drive is unhooked, the mod shouldn't be detected. Or am I missing something?

Well before I order my second DVD drive, I'd like to find out if this is possible.

Not very informative. Does something get changed on the Xbox360 when you change the firmware of the DVD drive? One would think not as its just the software that tells the DVD drive how to work, so I would think that it would not affect the system itself. So it does make sense that the dual DVD drive idea would work, and work well. But does anything on the 360 itself actually change when the drive is modded?

that seem like a "pain in my a**holes" as borat would say why not just use two boxes one for online and one for offline play?

No one knows 100% on whats causing the bannings it might not have anything to do with the firmware at all or it could. it might have to do with data the xbox saves on its cache or memory that M$ can read and detect. the point is even if you do your double deck idea it might still get you banned.

See thats what I want to know... is there anything being transfered from the DVD drive to the system that tells it that its modified or is it all just firmware checks that live does to detect modders. If it is, then the dual drive idea is perfect for someone like me. I just don't want to spend $30 on a DVD drive I don't need.

Dude i told you before no one knows exactly how they are banning your multiple drive idea might work but id say you are still at risk.

Think I hit a roadblock. New updates (required to play new games like MW2) detect firmware updates. So I assume that if I did my dual drive idea, as soon as my firmware hack drive is plugged in, the console (updated to detect firmware) would then flag the console to be banned from live upon next sign in even on legitimate drive.

Common sense? Yes I forgot that the programming used in an Xbox 360 is childs play and common knowledge.

If you cannot make a comment of worth, why comment? Your being a troll, and trolls get taken care of on afterdawn.

i wonder what he said.....

Anyways the flashed dvd drive will get you banned and i don't think u can run 2 dvd drives off the 360, just play with 2 separate consoles

I don't think dual drives would work because if you get both to run, and are "flagged" by a bad rip/dl on the flashed drive, the console is now flagged, and will be banned.

It's basically no different from being flagged, and flashing back to stock firmware, and then getting banned, which has happened to a number of people.

I wasn't sure if there was anything saved to the console to detect firmware or if it was basically a system check when going online in which my idea would have worked flawlessly and be less expensive than dual consoles. But since it saves to the 360, as soon as I plug in my firmware hacked drive it will flag my console and ban me when I go online I guess... well that idea out the window. Maybe I'll see if I can find a hacked and banned console on the cheap since over 600K were banned the other day.

Thanks for the help guys. Appreciate it.

The drives may not be the problem in either case. No one knows. It could be bad rips, rips made from marked discs (like the cigarette burns on pirated movies that indicate where the movie was taken from), or a whole slew of other variables we haven't even thought of.

i did add something to it, i said the op lacked "common sense"
others have addressed it by telling him just use two consoles but i thought i would hit the root of the problem.

if miscrosoft checks for bad angels that occur on pirated copies, then
using your hdd should eliminate the problem. The two dvd drive sounds
like the most intelligent idea to combat this problem. If use the unflashed drive when getting ms updates then switch to the flashed sounds workable to me.

yes but wouldn't the system notice the flashed drive when turned on and just flag the system to be banned by XBL as soon as it connects to the net, even if the non-flashed drive is in use at the time? Thats what I was hoping to find out. No clear answer on this but it seems likely the system would be flagged after an update once the flashed drive is plugged in.

If anyone knows otherwise let me know. Not sure if the system would do a check each time its turned on or not.

man there is a lot of anal ignorant replies, talking out of their butts with no sense or info to back it up..

anyway fuel_f2f : I been doing this for past month, no BAN, lots of info to prove my theory, so far so good, here is the discussion i started, hopefully that will help you solve your issue: would give u the direct link but not sure it is allowed so ill just paste the topic highlights:

"Okay this may or may not be helpful to others and although I searched many places to see if this is something commonly performe, I did not find anything about it, so far it is working for me flawlessly, might just be luck, who knows .
First off, I have five 360 consoles and 3 of the 4 I used to go online have been banned ( 2 Ben Q's and 1 Samsung were Banned, the 4th is Samsung ), the 4th one that I will explain below is not Banned and has survived the Ban Wave possibly with thistechnique. Once again, it could be a rare coincidence, but it could also be online still because of the technique i am using.
Anyway here is what I been doing in detail:
Basically I am using a Swap method involving 2 DVD drives. The Samsung 360 original Drive is unmodded, however I spoofed I?s Key onto a Ben-Q I had laying around and modded it with IXtreme1.6. When I want to go on Xbox Live, I just connect the two cables to the Samsung, and Live allows me to go on ,no Bans ( yet ) and all is well. When I want to play a Backup, I unplug Network, connect the "Spoofed" Ben-q and I play backups fine. simple as that. Sure , we do not know exactly thetechnique MicroShaft is using to detect Modded Consoles, but this technique has been working for weeks for me perfectly.
Some Background and Logic to this:

The Reason why I attempted this in the first place was as follows: I had acquired the Samsung 360 console like month ago, and it was E-74 and unbanned , so after performing heat-gun and X-Clamp fixes, I was able togo online with it. I began playing the game " Dragon Age: Origin" (Backup) on one of my modded consoles and after finishing the game, decided to purchase the 2 DLC's for it, of course the timing was pretty much around the time those consoles got Banned so I was **** out of luck . I couldn?t go online to Download the DLC's ( I had some Points in credit ) SO what I Did was take my un-modded Samsung 360 I had just fixed ( e-74), connect to pc, and mod it to Ixtreme16 ( doing this to Samsung for me was simple as ever, since just had to unplug cables , connect to pc, run jungleflasher, done ) After modding it, I began playing a new game of Dragon Age: Origins ( Backup) on the newly modded Samsung console, created a game save, turned game//console off. Keep in mind this is being done so I can try to download the DLCs . So I now had the save on my memory card/hard drive and needed togo online to get the DLC's but of course I didn?t want to go online LIVE with the Samsung I just modded (would be stupid). So I re-connected the Samsung back to pc, used Jungleflasher to restore/reflash my OG .bin file, restoring it back to "Stock". Now I do not know if I flash and restore like I Did that Microsoft could figure that out somehow and Ban Me, so I just took the risk, reconnected the "Stock" Samsung back again to console crossed fingers and went on LIVE and downloaded the DLC's with no problem, unplugged the ethernet and now I had my DLC's saved, only problem is I couldn?t play them because my Samsung 360 is "Stock" and of course the DLCs will only work with this console according to the DLC terms ( I can play it on another console, but need to go on live to sync it or some **** ,so transferring to one of my other back-up capable (Banned )consoles was out of the question. Anyway, so I re-connected the friggen Samsung back to pc, reflashed again with Iextreme16, and connected back to 360 offline and Bam, all DLCS are working fine and game running fine. So anyway to cut a long *** story short, I did that tiresometechnique few more times, like when I needed to go online to play a game or get demos, etc. and of course flashing back and forth modded, unmodded ( I know some say it can be bad doing so many flashes ) then I remembered I have several DVD drives lying around, 2 BenQs and a Hitachi from some deadconsoles I had so I basically spoofed the key of the Samsung to the extra Benq SO now, I just switch drives when I need to go online, or to play backups, been Ban Free and gone on live many times for the last 2 weeks, So who knows maybe it?s Luck, but I truly believe that Microshaft could not Ban/Figure me out through this method, anyone else done this or tried this would like to know if they too are clear of bans so far..
Hope this helps someone else, to be it sure is better than having two consoles, easier just to unplug the drive, since my consoles are not closes anyway. "

I don't quite understand what you mean, are you saying you are online Live with modded now and un banned? if so maybe you are flagged and your qeue time hasnt arrived, the thing is, in a sense ,technically, my 360 has never gone on LIVE with a "Modded" DVD drive connect, only the stock one, also theswapping was around the early days of the recent banning and one of my other 360's got banned days after the first time i did the swap on the Samsung drive..

Ya of course the swapping to pc and firmware switching was long process, but if you are talkin about what I am doing now, it is actually not long, even quicker, because: 1: my 360 is open from the top, I have a longer Sata cable connected, all i do when i want to swap is 2 steps, unplug the power and sata , then plug them onto the other drive, DONE. it's actually even easier than using another console for me, since doing that would involve plugging the power, the Video, the hard drive, etc.. i figure if this stays working, ill just rig up a half *** A/B type switch to change Drives simple as that

well apparently from this process I have been doing, I have come to the conclusion that the only way Micro**** is currently able to detect us is through the firmware, and not ( hopefully) Past or Future, just at the time it checks if we have the modded firmware it will know, i dont think any traces besides the drive can link them to it, since I have the same saves on my Hard drive ( which is a Homebrew 250) and memory cards and they are lugged in on live and still no ban

I had given up on this idea. But seeing as how someone has been doing it makes me think there is some merit to it not. My current console is banned now (lol?) but if I get another I'll try this out as well and post results. Not sure though as I might do a wii+360 trade for a PS3. But we'll see.
