i just got a console with rrod..i reapplied thermal paste artic silver 5 and i cut the mesh out the back of the fans to help airflow and i brought the ex cooler niko thing that goes round the back and i did the x-clamp fix with 2 pennies on the ram chips for fun....so i should be good...i hope...lol..but yea how does microsoft do it? i heard they say ''we implement the latest hardware '' or something like that..now is that the screws? new x clamps?...new metal thing thats supposed to warp? or even new gpu's or just better solder....ive read about and cant find a clear answer wondering if anyone knows thanks. OH YEA ONE EXTRA BIT might aswell post it in this 1 thread...i reformatted the drive on my banned console and i think i lost the optional media update right?...i havent tested it out yet since my big screen is down till i get the new replacement board in the mail but is there a way to get the optional media update injected directly to the drive or something? {hell even mod the drive software or something ive heard of tversity but i dont wanna lose some 1080 mkv quality so im just wondering)...ive heard get the disc and burn it but i cant find a iso anywhere..and i cant access live of course thanks again

they replace the motherboards and add a heavy duty heatsink and a heatpipe.

the optional update is supposed on microsofts official xbox 360 site, but it seems the site is down or something.

The optional media update can only be downloaded via Xbox Live. It's tied to the console that downloaded it by DRM, so if you didn't download it before you were banned, there's nothing you can do.

Even if you did download the optional media update before you were banned it's not going to work on a banned console.

It does work. It's Windows Media Center functionality that's blocked on a banned console.

The only time it won't work on a banned console is if you downloaded it and then for some reason you switched consoles and didn't update your licenses, in which case you'd have to be signed into Live with the gamertag that originally downloaded it in order to use it, which obviously isn't possible with a banned console.

well the thing is i did have it but i reformatted the hdd i think that means ive lost it right? and need to re-download it to that console which is impossible on a banned console =(

Im in the same boat as you my friend. I got banned a while ago and I accidentally formatted my hard drive. Yes it seems like we can never play movies on the xbox console anymore. the other poster had it right. its associated with DRM so even if you get a friend's xbox, connect it to live, and plug in your hdd or mu. get the update, plug it BACK into your banned box. it still would not work. this is because it does not match the DRM info on your xbox. we cant sign into xbox live to get it. and we cannot re-download it. our last hope now is putting linux on the xbox and not play games :(

im buying a used -UNBANNED xbox right now.
