Burning advice

Software used: Imgburn on windows xp sp3
Hardware used: LG HL-DT-ST ram.cfm" class="forum_link" target="_blank">DVD-RAM GH22LP20
Firmware used: 1.03
Media used: Arita dual layer 2 differnt types one of the types is:
Arita double layer DVD+R 8.5 GB 2.4x speed
AROVPR85252SPI Mediacode: RITEK-D01
I know this isn't the best burner and media, but I have burned over 50 games + in the past with maybe 15-20% failures.
What is the best burn speed to burn? I don't remember what I usually pick.
But once I selected 2.4x and imgburn said while burning the actual write rate was around 0.8-1.0 x
Another dvd I selected 4.0 x and I got again 0.8- 1.0 x speed.
The discs are able to go higher than 1.0x and the burner too I know that, so why does it burn at 1.0x?
Or shouldn't I worry and is 1.0 x speed the best?

Why not just buy better quality discs? If you're getting a failure rate or 15-20% and burn speeds of less than 1X, you'll probably find that the "good" burns really aren't that good either and may cause your 360's drive to work harder to read them, or the games may freeze up or give you dirty disc errors at certain points in the game.
Your burner is decent and the firmware is up to date, so it's almost certainly down to your choice of media, unless you're getting issues burning CDs and regular DVDs as well.

yup,you need better media.You should be able to burn the full rate of 2.4x dvd's and 8x i would suggest 4x

But strange thing is I remember the same media was able to get higher rates. (as assumed as it says 2.4x) and now I only get 1.0x rate.
I also remember my burns took like 45 mins +- and now it takes 1:30 H or more.
I don't have money for other media unfortunatly for coming time im stuck with 25 more of these dvd's.
But 1.0x isn't bad for your x360 games? I heard as low as possible, but 1.0 seems very low to my opinion.

Burning as slowly as possible is not good advice.
Are these discs from a new spindle? Perhaps they use a different dye to your previous batch, or maybe it's just a bad batch. It happens sometimes, especially with cheaper media.

Hmm I see, Im getting my new ones soon I orderd.
So 1.0 is bad, 2.4 at least then?

This is what Verbatim's quality manager said to me when I emailed and asked about burning speeds: -
Basically, burning super slow with modern media on a modern drive is rarely a good idea. I burn at the disc's rated speed, but anything from 4X-8X on 8X rated discs should be fine.

You should have a 100 % success rate assuming that the game rip was done properly,i do my own & more than double what you stated & all work first time,i use verbatim from singapore burn speed is 1x-2.4x since that's the rated speed for the media,makes no diff what speed i burn they will work,goes for normal media as well

lol! I preferred the answer he got from Verbatim, which basically said "dred05 is right!" in the same broken English that he used to use. Hahaha.
