Life after the ban hammer is difficult if you enjoy online play. If you don't play online but like to play backups of your favorite games and use your XBOX360 for home networking to watch movies from your PC post here.

Currently I use my XBOX to play movies I download from the internet. I had to be connected to XBL to download the update for .avi files every time I wanted to watch any video from my PC. Well no XBL means no .avi. I have been looking around the internet and have seen people talking about TVersity.

My friend has used TVersity for a while now so I installed it and I still require the XBL update to view .avi files.

Two questions:

1. Is there a special way to set up TVersity to play this filetype without having to connect to XBL?

2. Is there a way to keep playing downloaded games offline without having to download the update every time you play a new game for the first time?

1. I don't think your TVersity is set-up correctly, as mine never needs to connect to XBL to play. Make sure there's a TVersity connection in your video options on your 360 (it should say something like TVERSITY on: COMPUTER NAME)

2. Just unplug your ethernet cable, then I think you just get a warning that it can't detect XBOX Live, just hit cancel and the game should load.

My 360 is banned for a while now (1 year I think) - but now it's getting even worse - since the latest dashboard update (tekken 6 I think) I can't copy any of my games from the dashboard to the harddisk

This is nothing to do with TVersity setup, if you purchased a 2nd hand xbox, or moved your HDD\Memory Stick from one to another then the Codec to play avi files is not licensed to that console and as such can only play avi files if connected to XBL.

If you purchased a brand new xbox and HDD and created a new profile then downloaded the codec, you do not need to be online as the codec license will match the xbox.

If you purchased a 2nd had console you can use the above link to transfer license to your new xbox (register, then delete the optional media update, then redownload when prompted).

Obviously this is of no use to anyone with a banned console but everyone should do it BEFORE they get banned, this way your 360 will still play divx\xvid movies.

Yup, you have to make Tversity transcode the .avi file. The xbox will "think" it's a windows media file, and it will play. Only downside is that the transcoding requires a lot of computer power...

A few days late on my reply. Most the answer I have found to this question have stated this could not be done on a banned Xbox. I did some playing with Tversity and found a way to stream all files without having to be connected to XBL. Below are the settings.

**Tversity Settings**

- Settings Tab/Transcoder "when to transcode" check always then adjust settings below that as you wish. I found that un-checking "Use Direct Show" under the Windows Media Decoder give the most consistent results.

- Next Go to the Library tab and click Edit Item on folders that your media is located. Click Advanced and choose Transcode: Always.

The main problem I have run into is forwarding and pausing video. Usually this results in the screen going blank and the only option at this point is restart the video.

If you have a modded 360, never played a single game on live, almost never even connected to live, and one day you decide to connect to live in order to download the divx codec, is it likely you'll get banned before you have a chance to download the codec?

I'm really confused. How do you know if your console is banned? When I try to connect to live it just says that there is a problem with the connection and I should check my router and modem. Is it possible that the network adapter is broken or is this what happens when you're banned?

See if you still have the option of copying discs to the hard drive. If you have it, you have not been banned.

You will know if you've bene banned, as the message is pretty obvious "This console has been Banned!""

To sixxer, I did exactly that on a mates console, played backups offline, never connected to live at all, even played early releases. Quickly connected to live to get the codec (had to create a silver account for him!) downloaded the codec and went offline again. Not a problem. I don't think MS are that quick at detecting it.

Thanks so much for this...it works fantastically!!! Always transcoding makes sure it does exactly that. TVersity reccomended (default) settings for transcoding doesn't always work so make sure it's set to "always" as t3fish originally posted.
