Hi guys first post.

Before you shoot me down I have had a good look about this site other forums and google to find this answer and am still stuck.

I purchased a banned flashed 360 yesterday, dont know firmware on the drive and am having a strange problem with Modern Warfare 2.

The game boots with activate disc gets to the start campaign mode and then brings up a disc is unreadable error.

What could be causing this ?

I have tried downgrading the iso to Wave 3 but that disc does the same but at an earlier stage.

Is this a firmware version issue , or possibly the dashboard is not up to date ?

Thanks in advance

It will be one of these things: -

1. A bad burn
2. The laser in the DVD drive is on the way out
3. The DVD drive doesn't like the particular media you're using

1 is most likely. If a game boots, then it's not a firmware or dashboard issue.

Is there anyway I can check the burn ?

The guy I bought it off gave me two games and they can bring up that error occasionally, but do work.

Does it look more likely to be a laser issue then ?

EDIT

I run the dvd through nero discspeed . It came up as

99.9% good
0.1% Damaged

Could this be causing the issue, is a 100% good burn necessary ?

google a program called abgx360 which will check the game for you properly.
if you have the iso before you converted it to wave 3 then it will fix it so you can burn it.

I downloaded abgx360 but I couldn't work out how to load anything from the DVD, just the ISO .

I finally worked out how to check the burn. It would not finish the CRC check. Is this the reason for my problem.

If I put a legal disc into the drive it should read ok, if not I assume it would be the laser.

Yeah. Any amount that shows up as damaged can cause the game either not to boot or to freeze/give dirty disc errors when it hits the bad area of the disc.
