Hi all, new to the forums, I've looked through some of the posts related to this but they don't really answer my question.
My launch model PS3 died a couple weeks ago. (YLOD) I followed this guide - http://wheretobuyps3.com/YLOD_fix.pdf - and now it works, turns on, stays on, can play games off HDD, etc. My issue is with the bluray drive. Before I did the fix to the motherboard I had taken the bluray apart to get my game out. Once all was done and I had it back together the bluray would not take a disc, it seemed to think there was one in it. I took it apart, and manually made it take a disc, and eject it, all good. So I put it back together and fired it up, when I hit the eject button it does nothing, as if it is not even on at all. Normally it beeps twice if there is no disc inside.
Again, I took it apart, and working with it half open (top half off) I cannot see what is wrong, so I took it all apart to make sure I got it back together properly. Now when I hook it up and test it I noticed something odd.
If I leave the wide, silver ribbon that goes from the drive to the motherboard disconnected and hook everything else up the system will beep twice if I hit eject. Of course it won't take a disc in though. When I hook the ribbon back up the eject button does nothing. Here is a picture of the ribbon I am talking about:
The ribbon and both ends where it connects seem fine, no visible damage that I can see. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the problem could be? Also, is there a way to test the ribbon itself to verify it's working, and if so, could you provide a step by step on how to test this.
I've gotten a bluray drive off my friend, his PS3 is dead as well, and I put it into mine, using the controller card from mine as I understand the controller cards are keyed to the motherboards. Anyways, so now, if I press eject it beeps twice, but the drive will not take a disc in. I can slide it into the drive but it will not automatically take it in.
