Problems playing Wii Resort

I just bought Wii Resort for my daughter and can't seem to get it to work. I'm using the original, not a backup copy. When I start the game, I get to the Wii menu and am able to get to the "Start" screen on Resort, but when I start the game, it hangs on a blank, black screen- no error messages or anything. I hear the disk still spinning but nothing happens. I've tried different games- backups and originals- and this is the only one I'm having a problem with. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? I've looked thru some of the other threads and see people are having problems but are they getting errors or is it a problem somewhat like mine?
