Hello all, thanks in advance for helping me out with this issue.

Just this weekend I decided to finally upgrade so I can play the newer games.

Firstly, before the upgrade I was using the following setup for about a year and all worked well:

hardware- my benq flashed to ixtreme 1.4 and my Kreon D163B flashed to the firmware avail at the time. NEC burner.
software- xbox backup creator v2.3(i think) and imgburn

Now I have upgraded my PC that houses the kreon to windows7. No this is not a win7 question, I have that taken care of. In fact I believe I have all of my bases covered. As far as I'm concerned, I've been burning coasters since but that is not the case according to the abgx software. Everything checked out ok and matched and I even allowed abgx to patch the iso. All the while I still get "play dvd" on these newer games but not on my old backups!!

I have tried the following:
NOTE: I have only attempted backups of Ghostbusters and Prototype

*Recently I attributed my troubles to the book-type setting not applying. I had to change the dvd+r dl setting to "permanent" and then change book type to dvd-rom on the dvd+r dl profile.
*Used abgx to confirm the rips are good, which they are (and I will upload later), but abgx still goes about autofixing them.

**When I flashed the drive I booted to C prompt using the boot cd that allows you to flash, then I ran iprep from prompt with all necessary files in folder I run it from. Flash went flawlessly, ran iprep by entering BEN <Drive ID#> rebooted drive to read/erase/write. I did not check drive key however but I assumed all was well. I verified OFW.bin and CFW.bin were in the folder after all was said and done.
*Verified imgburn settings set to the correct layer split, always burning @ 2.4x on verbs
*checked disk with abgx, confirmed the burn was good and verified just like the ISO.
*burned activate.iso to first layer only, (in desperate attempt to get this to work right) turned off autoplay on xbox. Insert activate disk and "play dvd" shows up then I insert the ghostbusters burn and still "play dvd" I've even tried to run the activate disk to the "insert this disk in xbox 360" and then insert my backup but still a no-go.

INTERESTING THING IS: It still plays my old backups that were working on 1.4 firmware!!!

I'm on my 6th coaster, everything is checking out fine when checked with abgx.

I'm planing on re-flashing and downgrading to 1.6 and just trying the activate.iso disk but this time when re-flashing I'm going to use a usb drive instead of the boot disk.
I
n my opinion the boot disk method to get to C:\ prompt worked fine and iprpep had all good returns. The only thing else it could be is the drive key that I didnt look over, but isnt that the drive ID on the back plate? because thats what I used for the BEN <drive ID> command in iprep.

Besides, would the drive even work at all if the drive key was messed up?

I have a HUGE feeling the 1.61 firmware I got from xbins is an old firmware, that or my firmware never flashed eventhough iprep said it did and read my OFW.bin

Is there any way to open the OFW.bin or CFW.bin to verify?

Thanks

I found these two links to be particularly helpful alternatives:
I might even go the 2nd link route since I have no reason to play online.

Well my hypothesis was correct...
And that is using the boot CD to get to command prompt in order to flash my BenQ drive using Iprep did not work.
Sure Iprep returned that it read my firmware and it even saved it, but I am still unable to play beyond ixtreme 1.4 games

So I got this nifty program from another thread...
http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-152/...rmwares-811141/

And converted my rip to wave 2 and WALA! IT WORKS!

Gonna say a thank you over there for the wave changer.

IMO, if you're gonna backup your games, dont play the backups online.
I hope this helps someone in the future-
