From every indication I've gotten reading around here, I was under the impression that it just wasn't possible to do - unless you had a console that didn't have the latest updates that closed the exploit that allowed dumping the NAND and all that other stuff that I don't understand...

But then I came across this on my local CraigsList, so my question is this really possible?:

http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/vgm/1462867929.html

"... To all our loyal customer:

LoneStar Gaming is fully aware of the current situation with the banning of consoles from Xbox Live. We are working diligently with our unbanning process to see what other alternatives we can provide and how we can lower the cost. The time to actually unban a console is about 3 to 4 hours, so hence, we are backed up by days...."

The ad goes on, but I don't want to be advertising for them here. I am only asking if this sounds legit - I thought it wasn't possible...

Never-mind, I found this and it answered my question for me:

For everyone who ask what is unbanning, let me answer this in my FAQ right below?

Q - What can you do with an unbanned console?
A - With an unbanned console, you will be able to get back on Xbox Live and continue to play your games online.

Q - How long does it take?
A - The process can take anywhere from 2 - 3 business days?

Q - Why so long?
A - The process is vary delicate! Here at LoneStar Gaming, we like to take our time with repairs and modifications.

Q - Will this work on all boards?
A - At the moment, NO! We are working very diligently to make this available to all the consoles.

Q - How does the process work?
A - The process involves using a chip set to extract certain data from your board. In return, we can change values on the board and flash it with new keyvault string and other relevant data.

Q - Where do you get the unbanned keyvaults?
A - Because we have a lot of Xbox 360's that can't be repaired, we kept them for a situation like this. We will extract the relevant data from the non-working Xbox 360 and place it in the banned one. After that, we will scrap the Xbox 360 so we wont use that data again.

Q - Can I get banned again?
A - At this point, our testing has showed no, but it doesn't mean that it won't happen. Because there are not duplicate keyvaults roaming around, the one that we place will be unique and should minimize a future ban.

It's all good, so I edited my post, too:

They also are offering to remove the modified firmware, from unbanned consoled before they get banned, for $20 (or free to their customers). They offer the unbanning process for $95.

At 95 bucks, better off spending an extra 100 and getting a new console. But its cool they have found a way to unban consoles

I think this would be a good solution for people who have invested considerable time/money in case mods, as well as for people who simply cannot afford a $200 (+tax) hit right before the holiday season in order to keep up with their gaming habits.

I myself am fortunate enough to be able to get replacement consoles whenever necessary. But I put this out there because I at first wasn't even aware that this was possible, and once I discovered it was possible I thought it would make an interesting read for others.

STAY FROSTY. OUT.
