have an old fat psp. When I remove the battery it says PSP 1001.
I installed 3.40 OE-A on it a long time ago.

I followed the instructions on how to add 5.03 using the How to hack any PSP without Pandora Battery thread. The first issue that came up happened after I pressed X to run the 5.03 icon on the PSP. the 5.03 icon looked like it rebooted the psp but gave me an error message saying "The game could not be started (DADADADA)" what does that mean?

Then I followed the instructions for "FOR CLASSIC PSP ( 1000 )" figuring I have a PSP 1001 it would work. I follwed the following instructions "Navigate to your PHOTOS folder , and enter the ChickHEN folder. And wait, you will see some images, these will start to load thumbnails.Go all the way down to the last image. Your PSP may freeze and reset." After following the insructions my PSP froze BUT it froze when I open the chickHEN folder. It did not allow me to scroll down to the bottom of the images. It freezes on the first image and shuts down. I can not get past the first image without it freezeing and shutting off. Any ideas on what I need to do. Remember I have an old MOD going way back to almost the first MOD. Is this the problem? I had this messages sitting in the actual thread but no one responded for a few days.

I would go the traditional method of installing 3.52m33-4

then you can upgrade.

I would also only up to 5.00m33 for now, as GEN firmware doesn't support the 1.50 kernel

So? Most homebrew runs on it still and 5.50 GEN-D2 supports all games.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Well,
I haven't had need to upgrade, but I suppose there are ISO's that you may need to have higher firmware. What game am I missing out on?

That being said. Some, NOT most homebrew works on the 3.xx+/slim kernel. I am not saying that they won't release the patch for it, but it's not available at this time.

If you want to upgrade to gen-d2 just go to psp-hacks dot com and look in their downloads section under firmware.

I could not play: grand theft auto china town wars, and madden 2010. I had to update FW in order to play those games. oh a few others too and I am thinking this might just be the new thing for late 2009 games because I played Rock Band on 3.40 OE-A.

ok, the video link I referred to was a little behind the times. it stops at gen-b. I didn't know there were higher. whats the latest GEN?

gen-d2 is the latest, i'm understanding its best to skip c all together and just upgrade to gen-d and the d2.
