Can you confirm that there is an update on the disc? If so does anybody know what the update is?

Ive heard conflicting opinions, others have said yes there is an update, others have said no...

There is an update on the Disc. It heard it updates your Wii to 4.1 or the IOS60 file ( I had 4.1U installed before inserting NSMBW). I can confirm it updates your IOS51 to the latest version. Restoring the IOS51 back to an older version makes NSMBW reinstall the current version.

The biggest change would be updating your Wii from 3.1U to 4.1U. 3.4U had some anti-piracy checks which there are work arounds ( the twilight princess hack just to name one). For the most part, its very safe to update to 4.1U and offers some great features like the SD channel. Grab the latest homebew channel and grab bannerbomb ( a replacement to Twilight Princess hack) and read up on some 4.x - 4.1 guides to make sure you have the correct IOS files installed.

The bigger issue is when you update to 4.2U with a softmod. Updating your Wii through Nintendo will bring you to 4.2. If you have an old version of THC, it gets removed along with other applications like xdvd. Search for the 4.2 guide if you want to go that far. Currently there are no games that support the 4.2, so currently its not worth it.

It already has hbc and is softmoded w/ larry's tut. Im just scared the update will conflice w/ the cios's installed. I wonder if running the original disc through neogamma will block the update partition.

4.1 isn't that scary, I would update. You can update your CIOS files from 4.1U. Just remember never ever delete a CIOS.

So, just to be perfectly clear:

The update on the retail NSMB disc won't kill HBC installs or update past 4.1?
