Japanese Wii with Drivekey won't play PAL games

Hello,

My Wii has been in its box for 2 years since I came back from Japan. I finally got it out when the wife got a Wiifit free with her phone. I knew it wouldn't work as it's an NTSC Wii and I'd tried a PAL version of Zelda while still in Japan (I'm a bit new to this modding lark). So I bought a Drivekey thinking it would enable me to play WiiFit and Zelda but neither of them work. My one Japanese game, Wii Sports still works properly.

I'm a bit dissapointed as I thought the whole point of the Drivekey was to enable me to play games from other regions and backups. Now I find I can't do the former. I haven't tried backups, not why I bought it.

What have I missed? Have I bought a Drivekey in error? Do I need to update the Wii (I turned update option off on the Drivekey to prevent bricking). If so how?

The Wii isn't on the internet as it speaks more Japanese then me and I find it hard to keep up with the reems of text required to sort the internet connection out.

Sorry for the long post, I've tried searching around but not found anything to help yet.

Any help is much appreciated.

I am having similar trouble.

my Wii is USA, won't play PAL backups with NSMB Drivekey. NTSC burns work fine with 4x Sony DVD-R. settings are for region override on, update blocker imports.

disc won't read, says error reading disc check manual.

is there an update needed?

Anyone have any wisdom to share?
