Bought a old console off someone for 30 dollars, looking to repair it and use it as my retail xbox 360 (to supplement my banned box). Has a RROD issue (0102), trying to figure out the most economical way to repair it. One of the more popular way is the hybrid method (using a uni-clamp and removing the stock ones), which is do-able for around 25 dollars. See: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s...=&#entry4393320

But the more research I do, the more it seems like reflowing the solders before x-clamping seems to be the only permanent fix to the problem. Of course, I don't have access (no reflow station) nor the guts to try the more risky methods (using a oven).

Am I better off going to the local repair shops that offer 40 dollar reflow+x-clamp services? Or is the hybrid method enough by itself and saving a few dollars?

Cheers

http://cgi.ebay.com/XBOX-360-Repair-Kit-...=item25575632fa

so far so good...its only been 2 weeks though lol

as you can see the kit is pretty much the same minus the lil cushions that go around the cpu/gpu and the lil bits that sit on that ram chip i think it was in the video..the lil black chip under the disk drive i believe aswell as underneath the cpu/gpu..seems to just be washers on top of those black chips though

OP :)

i've fixed many an xbox using the x-clamp replacement bolt/screw/washer combo and had only one box that i couldn't fix. None have been returned and most were for mates so i would know if they had failed on them.

the kits work out to @ £3 / $5 in the uk and you do need the xbox undo kit which some people sell with the repair kit. As long as you follow the numerous tutorials and just don't rush it you will be fine.... I can take apart, clean, repair, reheat, close an xbox in @ 1.5hrs and i only have one hand to do it with :) so anyone with both hands to play with should nail it no probs.

hope this helps :) good luck
