It seems to me that whatever firmware comes out in the future, users will always be playing in fear that they are about to be banned. This is what M$ want as it is a perfect deterrent. Each side will act and react.

There are ways to connect without using Live as mentioned elsewhere on AfterDawn (http://www.pothsprojects.com/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=1150 and http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/) but these fool the XBox into thinking it is playing with a local connection on your subnet. M$ have tried to hamstring this by only allowing direct connections to those with a ping of less than 30ms.

Rather than trying to hack an Xbox so that it plays backups in a way that is invisible to XBoxLive, would it not make more sense to hack the XBoxes so that they will connect at any reasonable ping (say 100ms). At the same time a hack to again allow banned XBoxes to install to hard drive would be perfect. Then, instead of an ABGX360 kind of solution to patch games for Live, we would just need one that removed any system updates from backed up games and we would be safe.

If it is technically possible (I don't have the expertise by the way), then it seems to be perfect - instead of my console being banned from XBoxLive, I have instead banned XBoxLive from my console and they've just lost out on my Gold subscription fees.

Comments welcome.

Regards,

Will

ok what about this:

Supposedly 600,000+ xbox's got hit this time round not including last years bans plus the people who have bought banned units to play offline.

If a business could host an XBL type environment ie online community play, then there is a potential £12m instant income @ £20/$35 for a yearly subscription. I can't see many people causing a fuss at paying half the xbl gold price for dedicated online gameplay.

Whether it's even feasible or is likely to be such a mammoth headache ? there is a revenue to be had again at M$ expense.

Hmm... Would that be illegal in anyway though?

Why doesn't MS do it? Stick banned Jews on separate servers... Same gold price...
Hella profits to be made.

Well it may be illegal but there are a couple of online alternatives for us unclean modders already and do M$ have such a grip on the market to stop you using your own internet connection to (possibly) play your own 'banned' xbox lol against others? They are quite happy to see us put out to pasture though, so i doubt very much whether they'd be smiling with another online community having the same abilities at half the price :) if only i knew a consortium who could pull it off lmao.....

Apologies gameover9. Not looking to steal anyone's thunder. Admittedly I didn't read through all 72 posts and I still can't be bothered to. If somewhere in there is the suggestion that the consoles be modded in the way I describe then I am sorry.

sticky is 70 pages of topics spread out, posts are usually repeated questions and flames about said questions.

Geez, I guess even oldfags can forget how forums work.

hey thats a little harsh Jesus lol

For everybodies info i've read the sticky's and actually tried to make X-Link Kai and XBConnect work but with little luck. It would of been quicker to play by royal mail :)

All this was, was an answer to Wills request for ideas and nothing more.
