Google to show off Chrome OS overview tomorrow

article published on 18 November, 2009

According to TechCrunch, Google will be holding a Chrome OS event tomorrow at their headquarters, showing off the "technical background information" of the operating system as well as demoing a few of the features. Additionally, Google will be giving a full "complete overview" presentation for the OS which should launch in the Q2 2010. Google VP of Product Management Sundar Pichai ... [ read the full article ]

Let's see here. An operating system developed by a search engine company. Just like their toolbar and desktop. Hmmmm !!! May as well just let the feds and US goverment move in where you live as there will be no privacy and security left if you use it. It is hard enough now keeping secure and private with Microsoft. Beware, Big Brother is watching you !!! Things that go bump in the night.

If you refer to them as a search engine company, you're probably thinking 90s.

I'm sick of these comments, it's not the second coming of the Nazis, it's an operating system, and they need to work within the law. I'm sure any kind of privacy concerns will come to light, there's no need to pack your bags and head for the shelters.

No, it isn't the second coming of the Nazis...that happened years ago, and was called DMCA (it didn't kill jews, but it is facism).

Still, I don't trust google. Just doing a search without logging in starts a record of what your IP and MAC address combo is doing.

Also, they don't have to operate within the law. If the news here has shown anything, it is that big corporations can blatently break the law, then use lawyers to get themselves off...even when the evidence is bullet proof. On the rare item that the law is enforced, it is only enforced by banning the sales of a product years after it is obsolite anyway.

Isn't this just a shell on Unix? So, is it really different than Ubuntu, Fedora, Apple OS, or any other thousand flavors of Unix?

There are only TWO OS's... Windows and Unix. Windows has themes to change colors, Unix has themes (shells) to change colors.

I'm using Firefox and OpenOffice now. Once Google releases their OS, it's ADIOS to Microsoft for good. Windows 7 has more bugs than Vista. Man, I can't wait! Go Google!

there's more than 2

Windows,
Unix
Linux (They aren't the same otherwise Linux would have been sued and shut down years ago.)

I'll give you credit for mentioning Amiga, but not much.
OSX's Darwin is based on XNU (XNU's Not Unix) that was OpenStep's kernel that Steve Jobs led after leaving Apple in the 90's when they hired a new CEO who used to work for Pepsi.

XNU is based on FreeBSD which is a variant of Unix.

Linux is also a variant of Unix, one designed to be free.

I'd forsee Chrome OS being based on Ubuntu (look up gOS) but eager to see it something entirely new. I highly HIGHLY doubt it.
Until it goes public any comment on this thread, including mine, is senseless bickering :D
