I was recently banned and am considering getting a new box. I remember reading somewhere there were unhackable drives out there. If there is I want to stay away from those. Do you think an arcade xbox would still be flashable?

Yea most of the new xbox's manufactured in mid-late 2009 have the new drives that can not be dumped yet. I went out and bought a new arcade from Walmart last week, and luckily I found someone on craigslist to swap me consoles too. My modded box for his non modded, non banned console. So now I have two.. :)

Anything made in August is like 99% chance to be unflashable. July seems to be alright as I did a Elite from then. You could probably find an Arcade from July up to May like my friend did in a small town.

I purchased 2 Arcades, both manufactured on August 23rd 2009, and they had July 2009 Lite-ONs that were able to dump the DVDkey.

Does anyone know of a time frame when this might be solved, or is this something that might be impossible to do. I can live without flashing it for a few months if there might be a way in the future

Nobody knows for sure. It could possibly take months if there is even a solution. All details are kept within the firmware team. So at this point, it is hard to say yes or no. I have faith that there will be a solution, it is just going to take time.
