i had a simillar problem on my pc, an anti virus program that i didnt install and couldnt get rid of,i had to bring it into the shop they said it was spyware and it cost me ?120 to get it fixed. i use norton and the shop advised me to run live update on norton as often as possible before going browsing online,as new virus and spyware appear allmost every day and if norton is not updated it might not be able to block a new virus. how the spyware gets on to the pc without being installed is often by a pop up saying something like your computer might be infected and (what ever anti virus name)will do a scan. then a person gets worried and clicks on ok to get their pc scanned and the virus removed, not knowing that they have actualy let a virus in. then the anti virus company offer you their product for a price to fix a virus they gave you.if this happens to anyone do not press ok and get off that site quickly as possible and never let any anti virus other than the one you have paid for do a scan. take your pc to a shop as a virus left un fixed can cause lots of damage. also if spyware gets in it can be impossible for your anti virus software to spot it(if its not updated regularly it wont know about any new virus and wont be able to block it)and other programms also.

moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue.

cphicks, have you tried system restore to before it showed up? take a look in all programs\startup & delete it from there. also go into msconfig\startup & uncheck the box(es) in front of the program. hit apply, ok then restart windows. install, update, immunize twice then run spybot search & destroy from this link. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html

cphicks & piopat, those anti-virus programs are malware not viruses so norton anti-virus won't get rid of it.

http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-alpha-antivirus.html

the manual removal works fine (last nights little project was killing one of these.. along with 2700 other trojans and junk)

May as well ditch norton too.. it's junkware .. the new AVG free 9 seems good. http://free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage
