I'm trying to do a DVD POT calibration to my lite-on drive. The only tutorial ive found says to put the two probes from the multi meter on these points (fig 1)

My lite-on is like fig 2. I'm assuming the probes should go on the red circled points. The reading i get is .2
When i do the blue circledpoints i get 5.8

Are the blue point the points i should be using? Those readings seemed more like what i was looking for.

My other question is: Am i using this multi correctly?

There is no setting option for 20ohms. The friend i borrowed it from told me it was automatic.

Any help appreciated!

That is an auto ranging meter you will be fine on that, the pot tweak should be taken on the left hand side of the adjuster and bring it down a little at a time you can burn the laser out.(I have burnt out one before)

Did you see this one

By a little bit what you got to do is turnit down by 100 ohms at a time never go under 2.8k ohms. your first reading should be like 3.4kohms like that then just go down to 3.3k then try for example.
pm me i got a good tut by Moda..

It worked. My drive was working fine and out of the blue it wouldnt detect games. It gave the open tray indication. I did this fix and now it works, but... Iv'e only tried one game so far anf though it works it hangs sometimes and freezes on occasion. I remember these were some symptoms it had shortly before it stopped working.

Does this mean i just need to get a new drive?
