black screen going from B-2 to D

I currently have 5.50 GEN-B(Full) and I'm trying to go up to D than D-2. I copy the 550.PBP to the root of my memory card and I put the update folder in my "game" folder. But when I select it to do the install the screen goes completely black and does nothing.

Any ideas??? I read one post on another site saying I need to go back to 5.00 M33-6, but I wanted to check with you guys fist.

Well, I was going to try and follow this links suggestions as far as troubleshooting this problem, but I ran into another.....I don't have a recovery folder???
