wiikey v1 and the 4.2U update

My original Wiikey is at 1.9s. My Wii firmware was upgraded to 4.2U and everything ran fine for about 2 months. All of a sudden, it just quit working yesterday. All the backups are no longer working. In fact, the Wii literally spits out the disk, all the way out of the slot!! What is the best way of recovering from this problem? Should I downgrade to 4.1U? I can live with not able to play some newer games game disks if I can fix this problem. TIA.

Correction. I was on 4.1U until the kids run Super Mario Brothers and upgraded the firmware to 4.2U. What's the best way tor ecover from this mistake? Does this mean Wiikey id no longer working from this point on and I should go with homebrew?

Sorry if this was answered here and I missed it, but what people are saying here seems to confirm what I heard elsewhere- everything up to 4.1u is ok, but 4.2u breaks multi-region capability. Is there any way around this?

The first time I heard this was when I was checking into the safety of playing the new super mario bros, and someone told me as long as I do the update in the game as opposed to letting the system do it (opposite of the advice I had always received in the past) I should be fine because the game only has 4.1u. So I did that and all my games both NTSC and NTSC-J are working fine.

I've already pre-ordered Tatsunoko v. Capcom though and I just read somewhere that it makes you update to 4.2u... is there any way I will be able to play this game and still retain the region free functionality of my wiikey?
