I did a back-up with smart ripper, and I'm using Ifo-edit to split the movie. On the split Ifo does a default split which looks incorrect... Did u do your split differently.... I need to know after the VOB Extras... U need to copy the Video_ts.Ifo... Video_ts.buf and Video_ts.vob to Disk1 and Disk2 directory! I got that part... What other vob, ifo, buf files do I need to copy to each DVD.

Monsters Inc will fit on 1 disk if you dont mind loosing everything but the film , I think there is space for 2 soundtracks . If I remember right the film is about 3.6 gig and sounds are about 250 meg each .
I just couldn't get Ifoedit to strip the ripped movie correctly so I had to demux it with smartripper then author it again

Look its simple and I have it on one disc. Simply rip using DVD Decrypter in IFO mode (note IFO mode)Use IFOEdit to remake the IFO files, hit Get VTS Sectors and burn. It will fit on one disc if you just get the movie (ie no menus etc). There is do need to demux etc....KISS

never say I can't be done as some smart !!! has already done it.

Hi Conner we meet again , this damn film is going to haunt me :)
I just thought maybe Ifoedit is better at remaking IFO's after Dvddecrytor rather than Smartripper cos I tend to use Smartripper , not for any reason its just the one I used first . I will give it a try your way , it could save me loads of work if it works for me .

IFOEdit is not to fond of XP but Likes Win2000 (the compatibility trick doesnt work too well either). I read that the author has just moved to XP Pro so maybe things will look up. In the meantime I keep an Win2000 machine up and running!

Piptster, how did you make out with DVDectypter in IFO mode and Monsters INC? Easy huh?

Right I've finally found some info on monsters inc , this explains why people , me included , had trouble with it .
The Monsters Inc R2 Collector's edition Disc 1 is quite a clever bit of work. The movie title set (VTS_09) contains 10 vob-ids but only 3 to 10 are referenced by the PGCs. The first two contain about 20 mins or so of the beginning of the movie but with no sound. Therefore you need to think abit before launching into ripping it. However, I did the following which avoided having to to major re-encoding. Use IfoEdit and strip vts_09 but do not keep vob-ids 1 and 2 .
This is from a post by drmih on doom9's forum .
Sorry Connor still can't get ifoedit to make those ifo's for me , I have tried repeatedly and the really strange thing is just once it worked . Why it worked that time and not the other 12 or so I have no idea , its not like theres any settings to change , just start it up , select create ifo's and select the vobs :/

Connor, I tried your method to use Dvd decrypter to just rip the movie(The Matrix) (ie. w/o any extras, etc) but I couldn't get it to work. the files created are:
vts_02_pgc-01_1.vob
vts_02_pgs-01_2.vob
vts_02_pgs-01_3.vob
vts_02_pgs-01_4.vob
vts_02_pgs-01_5.vob
vts_02_pgs-01_6.vob
along with some other files.

This is what I did:
1. Rip the movie files in IFO mode using Dvd Decrypter.
2. Opened IFO Edit and opened up vts_02_0.ifo and did "create new ifos".
3. closed IFO Edit and opened up vts_02_0.ifo again.
4. did "get vts sectors".
5. I then tried palying it within ifo edit and it caused an illegal instruction.

Another question I had was the vob files are larger than 4.7 gigs, how did you fit them onto one DVD5?

I think matrix is too big to fit on 1 disk without re-encoding it , I would say most films are too big these days .
Rempeg is the easiest to use but you do need to be able to get that film working from your h/d .
Smartripper in stream processing mode can demux the movie (.M2V) from your film to your h/d
Rempeg can then reduce the size of that movie .M2V file by your chosen scaling factor.
Ifoedit can then remux your new movie .M2V file back into your VOB files and create a new smaller working movie.
If this all sounds too complicated its not its really easy and I'll be happy to talk you through the steps above but you do need to be able to get the movie so it will play off your h/d even if its too big and I cant help you with Connors method cos Ifoedit wont work for me so Im not sure what files are there / needed
