Hi,
I would like to burn an mpeg format file to a dvd+r. I have searched some threads and have found many files that say you can directly burn the MPEG file to the DVD+R without changing it into .VOB format. But when I got to Nero Burning Rom to create a dvd-video it doesnt let me and says you need to change it into .VOB format or another video format. I was wondering how I could change it to this format with freeware tools and why the other threads said you can burn it directly to a dvd+r without changing it.
Thanks, a lot.

Hi Spider,
A VOB file is a special kind of MPEG file, but you have to turn MPEG files to VOB before burning them if you want to play the disc in a DVD player.
Some tools do so transparently, but they do it.
By the way, Nero 6 is shipped with NeroVision Express that will import your MPEG files, turn them to VOB and burn them. You can even build a menu for your DVD.
Cheers,

Hi,
Ohh I have Nero 6 but it did not come with NeroVision. It came with Nero burning Rom, Nero Express, and Startsmart but not Nerovision. Myabe, it's because I downloaded it and then registered it? Anyway is there any other programs I can use to do this job? Can you give me a link?
Thanks!

hmm.. you need an authoring program...
you can use...
dazzle dvd complete
(lets you create menus, intros, animated backgrounds, pretty cool)
oh yea, go to nero's site and just download the new nerovision from their site too...
it will register itself if you have a key that allows for that part (i think an ultra edition registers all teh components..)

Hi Spider,
DVDAuthorGUI is a free DVD authoring tool:
http://users.adelphia.net/~liquid64/dvdauthorgui.html
The only "problem" is that it only accepts elementary MPEG streams, that is, separate files for the video and the video. Thus if you have a .mpg or .mpeg file containing both the video and the audio, then you'll have to demux the file first. I never did so. Maybe bbMPEG, bbTools or VirtualDubMod could help.
NeroVision Express does accept a .mpg or .mpeg file. Just upgrade to the latest Nero version and you should get it for free.

Hi, ok I downloaded the Nerovision update but it says I have to get the dvd-video plugin to create the dvds by converting the MPEG's to VOB's.

From the Nero site:
Quote: The DVD-Video Plug-in is already included in the Nero 6 retailpackage and the webversion.
If you have a valid Nero 6 license, contact Nero support and ask how to get the plug-in.

I have Nero 6 and an authorization key as well. I just downloaded the plug in from the update site. Use the links on the left hand side of the page to find it.

Thanks
