I am "an analog guy in a digital world" and don't know what the heck I am doing: my 5 yr old destroys all the dvd's and games fairly quickly so I would like to make backups for the Wii---while reading a really complicated "geek speak" post here as a sort of tutorial dating back to Spring of 2007 I saw an ad on the right side for something called GAme Copy Master---can ANYONE please give me some advise as to that software of ANY advise on how to do what I need??? For regular dvd's I use AnyDVD and Clone DVD and find it fantastic.

Ok, first off: Game Copy Master is a scam. Dont buy it. AnyDVD and CloneDVD are decent programs but both equally useless for backing up wii games.

Anyway, there are several ways to make and run backup wii games. This is the guide on how to run backup game disks.

And this is the guide on how to make backup copies of your games.

They are both rather technical I'm afraid, but if you take it slow and follow them one step at a time you'll find that they aren't too horribly difficult.

thanks for getting back to me so quickly---OK, so Game Copy Wizard or Master is a scam---What about Home Brew Installer that claims to make this process much easier and can use it without something called a "Mod Chip" ???? Obviously I am looking for the easy way out (or at least the easIER way out LOL)
???

Ok,I'll try to explain.

Modchips are a physical chip that you install inside the wii that lets you play backup games without having to mess with any firmware or homebrew. With a properly installed modchip you just pop in a backup game and it plays as if it were a normal game.

The downside to modchips is that you have to buy them, they require opening up the console, most of them are specific to what versions of wii's they can mod and most of them require some pretty accurate soldering skills.

The homebrew channel is a custom channel for the wii that lets you boot homebrew programs from an SD card. These programs can be original homebrew games made by amateur programmers, emulators that let you play classic games (super nintendo, game boy advance, sega genesis, exc), utilities such as the one I linked to that lets you back up your wii games, or backup booting programs that will boot your backup games.

The upside to homebrew is that you don't need to buy anything, solder anything or open up the console. The downside is that it is a bit more complicated.

If you're as hopeless as you claim to be, then your easiest solution might be to get a modchip like the drivekey. I dont really follow modchip updates anymore but I believe the drivekey is compatible with all but the most recent generation of wii's, and it doesn't require any soldering.

To back up your games without homebrew the only way is to buy one of a few specific models of LG DVD drives and use a program called rawdump. Those drives are all out of production though and are rather expensive. An easier (if legally shady) alternative would be to download the games you want to back up.

You have many choices, what you should pick depends on how much time and money you want to invest in the process.

Hey--thanks for trying to educate me!! Not sure if this is redundant but in reading your explanation of the Mod Chips to me---you said that if using a Mod Chip "you just pop in a backup game and it plays as if it were a normal game"----1) If buying a Mod Chip costs some money but makes the future of all the games this 5 year old will go through much easier for me then that is what I would probably choose to use BUT you didn't mention HOW to get that "backup game" to use with the Mod Chip. ???

He put a link in his first post. (And this is the guide on how to make backup copies of your games.) Just click on it in his post.

after reading the description in the advertisment to purchase the HomeBrew software---it tries to make it look like it is fairly simple and makes it look also as if the HB software itself helps/lets you make the backup copies of your games but seems to put it on SD cards? if this is so then maybe this is the way to go for me?

Ok, first off: If someone is trying to sell you the wii homebrew software then stay away from them. All wii homebrew is FREE.

Anyway, the way you backup games in that guide is by running a homebrew program that will either extract the games into chunks on the SD card that you must recombine into the full disk iso on your PC, or stream the game directly from your wii to PC via wifi and save it as the full iso.

As I mentioned earlier, you can also rip the games directly on your computer but only if you have one of the special DVD drives.

And the third option for getting your backup games is downloading them. Legally this is somewhat questionable. Few normal people will consider you a pirate if you're only downloading backups of games you own, but in the eyes of the law it may still be considered illegal.

It will work, but it is nothing but the same exact software that is available for free in the guides I linked you to.

Afterdawn isn't too picky about where it gets it's advertising.
