Just picked up a 50-spindle; label says burns at 4x. Nero Rom (latest update) only let's me do 2x. What gives? And, no, it's not my burner (Iomega Super DVD Writer) or firmware - both support 4x. I've burned plenty at 4x with much crap*ier dvd-rs. Any thoughts??
Hi cats7, I don't know what media you used that could be crappier that Khypermedia. I had about a 66% failure rate with a spindle of those when I first started burning dvds.I have since learned that it doesn't pay to buy cheap media. I only use Ritek GO4. Not one problem since. I'm surprised you can even burn them 100%. Most error out at about 50-60%. If you are getting a complete burn that works I wouldn't complain too much about the speed.

Can't be put any simpler than that!
cats,
The low-grade discs are often times very optimistic about their speed ratings. They use a "best case scenario" for the rating but when it comes to the real world their media doesn't live up to it's billing.

thanks for the info - will definitely keep it in mind the next time I shop. 10 for 10 so far with the Khypermedia - the burn gods have been good to me, but keeping my fingers crossed. still wish I could burn at 4x, but slow cookin' is better than no cookin'
