My PS3 is getting a horrible wireless signal from my netopia 2247 router on the other side of the house. Moving the router or the PS3 isn't an option. The network is set to b and g. Everything else picks it up fine but the PS3 only gets about 20% most of the time.

I was wondering would the linksys WGA600N gaming adapter help boost my signal much or would there be a better option for me?

read this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-153/..._my_ps3-815340/

Gaming adapter will not boost you signal. You need a Range Extender like the Linksys WRE54G somewhere between your WIFI and PS3 to relay the signal.

Thank you so much! Wasn't sure if a repeater would work too well.

Should there be any compatibility issues between a netopia router, linksys range extender and sony PS3 receiver or should it be a simple plug, configure and play job? And will the recommended range extender lessen the speed of my connection at all.

Thanks in advance.

Linksys works well with my PS3. The PS3 does not care what Brand WIFI device you use as long as it uses the WIFI G standard. (Some WIFI Routers are designed with gamming in mind) I am not familiar with your WIFI router but all Sanctioned WIFI G Devices should communicate with each other. The Range Extender Relay time should not matter. It will just be one more relay in the WWW. We can both look at your routers web site and see if there are any issues with other brands.

Edit: Did not realize that this was a Motorola. Should work with anything. I would look for a Motorola Extender first. $ shop second.

Can't thank you enough.

On the compatibility issue I found this

Do you think this guy got a kind of repeater that is designed to be only linksys compatible or could this be a sign of netopia to linksys incompatibility?

Found this also http://www.wirelessforums.org/alt-intern...urce-39279.html They seam to think Motorola has a Compatibility problem with extenders.
I dont seam to be able to find a Motorola brand extender either.

Edit: The only Extender that i have experience with is the WRE54G and that was working with a WRT54GS. Plug and Play situation with no setup required. I have some I.T. guys down the hall. I'll ask them some questions after awhile.

Since we are both confused now, I would definitely call Motorola support and get them to tell you what you options are.

1. I've read of people using D-Link extenders = Working

2. I've only read one article of Linksys extender = not working. Dont know if that is true or lack of knowledge.

Edit: I.T. says G complient equipment should talk to G complient Equipment.

I would still talk to Support.

Reading on Linksys Site, Your router does not support WDS. Might be that it will not work with any extender.

Just got back. This is not the one but it's close. http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys...id=139789#M3259
I'll see if i can find the one on your router.

Another quote
I just recently found out about the posibility of turning a Linksys WRT54G that I own into a repeater using the Tomato software. I have the Tomato software sucessfully uploaded to my router, the router works fine as a router, but I have not been able to make it function as a repeater off a Netopia DSL Modem/Wireless Router combo. It is a Netopia 2247NWG Modem/Router combo. When I plug the output off a DSL modem into the WAN Jack of the Linksys WRT54G with the installed Tomato Software the Router functions fine as a wireless router, but does not have any repeater capabilities. I set the Router us as per the sample setup page, but it only functions as a normal repeater. I also tried the Access Point plus WDS, but could not get that to work as the Netopia Router does not seem to have WDS capabilty. When I tried the Linksys router in Wireless Client mode, My laptop Wireless receiver would not lock onto it as an access point.
I need to be able to Lock onto a Router that is not the strongest signal. There is another in my neighborhood that is close and stronger.
I am desperately in need of Information on how to make this work in my Linksys Router.
Thank You,
grampo

If it has DSL capabilities then i cant see why it wouldn't work. Still waiting for a reply to be sure and if i dont get that soon ive got in touch with someone who works for the ISP that sent me the router so, basically, I should have confirmation straight from the horses mouth within a day or so. Then maybe we can confidently put this thread to bed.

The range extender has nothing to do with your DSL connection. You would still need some of your set up. I assume that you have a Modem then the Motorola WIFI. The range extender would be another wireless device somewhere between your Motorola WIFI and PS3.

your motorola WIFI appearently lacking WDS seams to be a problem.

I would like to hear what Motorola's solution is.

Something else to throw out there. An easy solution may be replacing your Router Antennas with High Gain antennas. I did not look to see if yours has detachable ones.

It does not have detachable antennae. I'd thought of that earlier, its a dead end for my router. :(

On the plus I finally got a reply, I quote:

"The 2247-42-10NA model is designed for use in North America. The equivalent model to use in Europe would be the 2247-62-20EU wireless router. It's hard to say what is compatible and what is not compatible, because the range expanders are third-party devices, but our wireless routers should be compatible with any general name brand extenders, including Linksys. I haven't seen or heard of any compatibility issues between Motorola and Linksys devices thus far."

Promising, but a little too indecisive for my liking... its looking like a linksys range extender may be my best bet though.

Thanks so much for the help and if you happen to find evidence that it wont work as you stumble through the net plz post. In the meantime I think I'll get a linksys extender. Can't tell you how much I owe you, man. TYVVM!
