i have an old drive and the lens is done for,can i get this lens and replace it no matter what kind of drive it is as long as it is a samsung or hitachi like the link says

I've never done a replacement on Samsung or Hitachi, but on BenQ/LiteOn it is a very simple replacement and the lasers are compatible.

$28 on new multimeter -- Check

I imagine it is the same process. You just take off the lens ribbon cable, undo a few screws on the rail-guide and remove the old laser assembly then do the process in reverse with the new laser.
