Hey, quick question -
I live in Taiwan, and bought my 360 here. It's not modded, and I honestly never planned to mod my system before. I'd heard about being able to swap the DVD drive to watch all region DVDs, but that was about it.
Cut to my recent ebay purchase of Fallout 3's DLC discs. They're the wrong region for my system, and if sending 'er to the chop shop for a weekend could fix that, I'd be happy as a clam.
So:
- Is there a mod that's soft enough to simply make my system region free? I don't need or want to play burned games; dealing with .isos and disc checking and all that shit is enough of a hassle on my wii; not going through it again.
- If I were to mod it as such, my entire game collection is legit and will remain so for future purposes - would MS still get all ban happy on me for going on live, even if all of my games, saves and DLC were 100% paid for and legit?
I'm aware that I'd lose my RRoD coverage, but game shops here can take care of that fast and cheap so no big, there. I'd just like to play the occasional region locked NTSC game, and watch the half of my DVD collection I bought back in the states.
Thanks in advance.

there is no way to make your console region free.
yes MS would ban you even if you have retail games, they dont care.
Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME
ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

Sorry for posting in the wrong place.
Thanks for responding... but really? They've confirmed that the new bans ARE occurring to people who simply had their firmware flashed like I'm looking at?
That's... really effed. So if a friend in the states sends me a game for my birthday, it's a crapshoot whether or not the thing'll work. Moreover, if we move from one country to another, bad enough our LIVE services are crippled (nothing related to video works over here) but now I can't even watch my own DVD collection?
I'm not rebuying Harold and Kumar as a god damned Region 3 just so I can watch it once a year. It's honestly like they're trying to encourage piracy rather than prevent it, here.

Not to bump my own post... but something just occurred to me - could I take my HD to someone who has a modded box, DL my fallout stuff using their system, then take my HD back to my own?
I'll only need to do a single install on those so that makes sense to me...

You can't do that. DLC is tied to the console that downloaded it. It can only be access on another console if the gamertag that downloaded is sign into Live.

It's disc-based DLC, much the same as the GOTY edition, which people have been loaning to friends, using across multiple systems, et. all.
Anyway, I was more curious as to whether there was anyone who has a modded 360, NEVER played any no-retail legit games, and still got banned. The few cases of such I found skimming a billion pages of posts here all said 'no ban.'
