I just bought a banned console with no hdd off of ebay and it wont let me save games. I thought the console had 512 megs of storage for save games? Its saying i need to create or recover a gamertag. I have a regular un-modded 360. If i create a new gamertag on my harddrive and put the hdd on the banned console will it then let me save games or am i goiing to have to buy another hdd or memory card?

You see, this is why doing some of your own research helps. You're a "Junior Member," which means you should be familiar with the Search function. As you're not, here's the lowdown, or what I can recall of the lowdown:

1.) The 512 MB of storage refers to the system's internal RAM, I believe, which is used for computing, not to store long-term data.

2.) Transferring the gamesaves via hard drive swap will not work because they will show up as corrupted upon insertion into the banned console. You will have to recover it again by going online with the 360, and since the banned 360 can't access XBL anymore, you're pretty much out of luck.

3.) The only way you'll be able to store game data is by getting a memory card or a hard drive.

Really, it shouldn't have been that hard to just look around a little. I'm not even PART of the 360 scene and I could find all that out within just a few minutes.

Well thats just amazing dude. Looks like you cant read either! Im not transferring any game saves because I HAVENT GOT ANY! I am playing NEW games never before played! I cant recover it again because IT DOES NOT EXIST! I DID use the search function and everything i read was referring to people using the hdd off of their banned console onto a new unbanned console, which does not apply to me. I did NOT have hours to read through hundreds of posts even if it was there!

I think you'd still have the same issue with the corrupt file. You can try creating a new gamertag on your HDD to use with your modded box. When you swap the HDD over to your unmodded box you will still get a corrupt error for your new profile, and vice versa when you swap the HDD to your modded box. I havent' tried this so let me know if that works.

Well you do actually, especially as it costs nothing to search the forums.

But Creaky i DID eventually spend several hours reading through endless post after post and still did not find an answer for my situation. If someone cant help and doesnt have the answer i dont understand why they waste their time posting how stupid i am for not being able to find it? And half the time THEY dont read the question right and the smart-a** answer doesnt match the question!? :-)

Well i can only go by the fact that you said you didn't have time to search :). If you did after the fact then good stuff.

If you use your hard drive from your non-banned console, you will not be able to access any saves (once you save) on the hard drive if you ever attach it back to the unmodded console.

Any saves made on the banned console will only work on the banned console is what im trying to say.

The best thing to do would be to pick up a 256mb or 512mb memory or 20gb hard drive and use that for saves on the banned console.

It wouldnt get you banned but what would be the point if you cant access the saved games on the non-banned one.

I suppose you could have other saves, but its a bit of a pain having to recover your gamertag every time you switch the drive between consoles.

I got the modded one cheap. I have a non modded one to use with live. I wont be swapping saves between them. I'll only play certain games on one or the other, but not both.
