Microsoft has started using games with ssv2 in them. This means that there are additional angles in games. As of now, Kreon firmware cannot pickup these additional angles.

If you rip any game with an iX 1.6 0800 drive, you will get these additional angles (SSv2). Whether Microsoft has actually started requesting this additional angles, is something that needs to be determined.

It is highly recommended to start ripping your own games with an iX 1.6 0800 drive to take advantage of SSv2, but I don't think it is something Microsoft has implemented yet.

I dont strictly agree with the OP here, I dont think SSv2 is implemented as such just the way that the drive in question reads the disc.

For example if I rip Forza 2 retail with a 0800 flash drive its reported as SSv2, rip with Kreon shows SSv1

Rip a backup of a game with Kreon which was originally copied with a 0800 drive and you will get SSv2

I'm sorry I cannot offer a more technical reason, hopefully one of the more advanced members can.

ALL games will display SSv2 results if ripped with a 0800 360 drive.

Soooo, Borderlands and Tekken 6 will display SSv2 results if ripped with a 0800 360 drive.

ALL games will display SSv1 results if ripped with a Kreon Samsung drive.

Hence, Borderlands and Tekken 6 will display SSv1 results if ripped with a Kreon Samsung drive.

SSv2 is NOT a type of protection on a game disc.

SSv2 is when a 0800 360 drive reads angles twice from a retail disc making certain that the measurements are the same as those read by an actual Xbox 360 drive.

I have some games that are ripped in SSV1 but they are older games (the last one being ODST). Should I re-rip them???

I'd like to know the answer to this as well, since the drives all used to give SSv1 values as far as I know, is v2 necessary on older titles?

Ok guys this is really simple but important to understand. To my understanding any game you rip using a kreon drive is going to be ssv1, new or old. Any game you rip using a 0800 or ixtreme 1.6 drive is going to be ssv2, new or old. BUT there have been cases were(I personaly) ripped a game (mdw2 and assasin creed2) using a kreon and got ssv2. Im still looking into that though, very weird I know.

but remember

ALL kreon rips= ssv1
ALL 0800 or ixtreme rips= ssv2

honestly, sometimes I feel disappointed in the scene. I've posted information on the best way to rip games, and then threads like this show up. It really makes me think that people don't get/understand the important information, and any work that will be released just isn't understood on how it will help people.

If you think a thread like this is necessary, go back and read my posts, and others' on ssv2 and games. Read what you need to do to rip games with them. If this can't be understood, I'm afraid all future roll outs of any information is almost pointless since people can't understand the info that has already been written to everyone.

Let's try to do some research guys. Seriously. If no one did any, how would anyone expect to gain some knowledge and help advance the scene?

I have yet to be able to get my actual question answered anywhere. As far as I know, SSv2 didn't exist before, so all rips were SSv1. What I and others have asked is if it is necessary to re-rip older games to get v2, or if it will only matter on newer titles, or something else entirely. No thread I've found has had the answer to these questions, and if possible I'd like to avoid re-burning 100's of older titles.

personally, I would.

I have two consoles, a banned one, and a non banned one I use for live (which does run backups). For all my previous games that I did with a kreon, I will NEVER put them in the love console. After I did some research, I have decided that the only games I will pay on live are retails, or games I alone have ripped with an 0800 drive.

EDIT:
I'm having the same thought as petries. Is it necessary to re rip games using an 0800 even if they're older? I understand that all games can have ssv2 when ripped with the 0800 since it will check the angles twice, but the older games shouldn't have any odd new angles should they? Also, what's the difference between these new games like MW2 and older games, where people are listing specific games that need to be ssv2?

This post is useless. Let me try to sum things up so that this thread may be closed as I understand guessswho's frustration.

Only XBOX 360 drives flashed to 0800 get both SSv1 and SSv2. Kreon drives only get SSv1 (if you got SSv2, something is not right or you are very special and lucky).

If you want to use the SAFEST known methods for ripping games, use an XBOX 360 drive flashed with 0800 firmware as Microsoft may be able to detect that you are not using SSv2 in your rip.

Therefore, yes, ALL previously burned games that do not have SSv1 are NOT SAFE so it is advised to put away your KREON drive and use only a drive than can read both SSv1 and SSv2.

Kreon MAY release something in the future but he hasn't for the last few years.

guessswho works very hard to instruct in proper backups and hopefully this will quell questions that have ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED!

Ditch your Kreon for now and buy an XBOX 360 drive and flash that to 0800 firmware.

For all those games in your library missing SSv2...well, it may not be safe to play them anymore so you can use them with an already banned console. If you wish to keep your console unbanned, then don't play any games that are missing SSv2.

Hopefully, that was clear and concise.

I think most people favor BENQ. I just ordered mine today as well.

@ guessswho:

No, thank you for helping people like me when you don't have to. I bow to your kindness sir.

My goal is to give back everything you veterans have taught me and to help strengthen this scene for all who want to be a part of it.

Is there a power adapter to make your Benq drive work in your computer? I don't want to half to buy another extractor or device for $60 just to provide power to the drive.

yet another reason why the major scene groups (those that upload games to the net) should ONLY allow 0800 ripped games. how hard would it be to just make sure they contain ssv2?

Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.
