Can't Make Heads or Tails ...... Please Help

Hey!
I've been searching the net high and low for information since the ban wave.
Im from England, but have been in Canada since Sept.
My 360 has not been online or switched on since that time.
It is modded... liteon ixtreme 1.6
Here is my Dilema....
I Gather as soon as i connect to live it will be banned. But if i remain offline will it still function as normal?
Does it need to connect to Live for the Ban process to complete?
If its banned, what are my options? Can i update the dash? What firmware would you recommened?
Would patching iso waves be recomended of activation iso?
does the activation iso work on all future waves 5+
I know theres soo many soo many questions but any help would be appreciated.

1:You will be banned if you were flagged, but if you remain offline the console will still function as normal.
2:Yes it needs to connect to live to ban the console.
3:The new Ixtreme LT won't care about waves so that would be the best one.
4:Depends on how you feel about the activate.iso
5:The activation.iso won't be needed if you update to LT

now regarding my mates 360, he did connect online and was told he was banned?
what are his options? can he still update dash via disk?

I couldn't answer that as i'm not banned so i haven't researched much about it but if i had to hazzard a guess i'd probably say he could, but as i said it's just a guess.
