Hi all,

I recently bought a new Wii after my last modded Wii broke. (It didnt break so much as my nephew introduced it to the floor the other day while climbing up my now also broken tv stand.) The long and the short of it is I foolishly decided to buy the new limited edition black Wii as my replacement persuming it would be easy to mod as i did with the previous Wii.

Only after buying it did I start reading about modchips that I could use. Because I bought it the other day I am persuming I have the new d3 drive which is hard to mod. I might even have the "unmoddable" d3v2 drive. (Hopefully not)

Is there anyway to find out what modchip I need? Or exactly what drive I have without opening the Wii.

I used http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/sea...al=LEH501591342 and received the message: "We do not have enough information to determine what drive chip you have". I then tried http://www.wiidrives.com/list and it told me " * There is a 50% chance the chipset is GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip.
* And there is also a 50% chance the chipset is Combined GC2-D3 with no drive chip."

Does anyone know what modchips is the best out of the following recommended modchips or recommend an alternative.

Compatible Wii modchips:

* DriveKey
* Wasabi

I dont mind soldering as I have soldered many previous consoles but if a solderless solution was available I'd obviously lean towards that.

Thanks Again All.

Hope ye can help and old technowhore get back into the modding scene,

Cheers,

Al.

I'm guessing you've probably been out of the wii modding loop for awhile because modchips really aren't required anymore.

Follow one of the many great softmodding guides to install a software backup loader like neogamma or a USB loader like the configurable usb loader. No soldering required.
