Hi I was banned from xbl before the latest dashboard update was released and have read that some games require the dashboard update to be able to play them. (Is this true?)

So I've downloaded the latest dashboard update from ms's site and have followed the instructions to a tee...

Quote:
To create a DVD or CD:

1. Click here to begin downloading the update folder. Save it as "$SystemUpdate_Fall09_8955.zip" anywhere on your computer.

Caution: Do not change the name or folder structure of the update file. This must be the same as when you downloaded the file for the update to run properly.
2. Place a blank disc in your burner.
From Windows Explorer, select Open Writable CD Folder Using Windows Explorer or open the CD drive icon.
3. Open (double click) the zipped $SystemUpdate_ Fall08.zip folder and drag the contents of the zipped folder to the root of the CD Folder. If the CD write window doesn't open by default, drag and drop the folder onto the CD/DVD RW drive.

Note
If you are using an earlier version of Windows you will need to open the file using a separate utility (for example, WinZip).
4. In the Explorer window, click Write files to CD from the CD writing tasks or right-click the CD/DVD RW drive and select Write these files to CD.
5. Follow the steps in the CD wizard. When you are finished with the wizard, the CD will eject. Your CD is ready.

To update the console:

1. Switch on your Xbox 360 console.
2. Place the CD into the Xbox 360 console.
3. Turn the console off and then on again.
4. The update program will start automatically. Select Yes, update now and press A.
5. Wait for the update to complete.
6. When the console reboots, you're done!
I've tried the above method using CD-R, DVD-R and a USB Drive (FAT32) but none worked do I need to do anything different because my console is banned or does anybody have any idea why this is not working on my console.

I have a LiteOn drive runing iXtreme 1.51

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, bremner :)

It shouldn't matter if you console is banned. Access to Xbox Live is the only thing MS can revoke when they detect a modified console. It is illegal for Microsoft to cripple a console just because it was modified (Just because the consumer did something (possibly) illegal, doesn't mean that MS can illegally cripple hardware).

Get (or borrow) an original wave 4 game, it will have the dashboard update embedded in it, install it using the game disc.

Let me know it works out.

you dont need any updates in order to play games. but if you want the latest one (the one with facebook, twitter, and last.fm) dont worry about it. you have to have LIVE in order to use these features. if you are talking about the NXE dash update, then just play a new game and it will update if off the disc.

as for censoreds comment--

what do you say about them blocking the HD function. sounds to me like they crippled the hardware there......

ALSO, DO NOT SEND ME MESSAGES ON LIVE REGARDING MODDING CONSOLES, OR HOW I PLAYED A CERTAIN GAME EARLY. I WILL NOT RESPOND. I WILL INSTEAD DELETE YOUR MESSAGE, AND BLOCK ALL COMMUNICATION FROM YOU. JUST SEND ME A PM ON HERE.

Im having the same results as bremner.
I tried several times with a flash drive, each time the 360 did ABSOLULTELY nothing when the console was restarted.

Also tried with 3 different disks. Each one just reads as "mixed media" when the constole is restarted.

So yeah...

So your saying I cant install games like before I was banned? I tried to install GTA4 The Liberty city stories and it said "This game does not support installing to the HDD" are you saying this will happen for every game now I'm banned?

Thanks for clearing that up, I read that Left for Dead 2 needed the new Dashboard update.

yes, you will get that error on every game from now on. and LFD doesnt need any new dash to play. if you were capable of finding a console that had the FW to play the game on the old dash it would still work. you would get the prompt stating there was an update, do you wish to apply it stuff, and if you said no, you would still be able to play the game. you just couldnt play on live. which obviously you cant anyways since you are banned.

but if you do get ahold of LFD2, you can use that disc for the update. or assassins creed 2 would work as well.
