There's absolutely no reason to use over priced verbatims over cheaper brands. I've used a variety of cheaper media over the years and have had no problems.

RFM, the reason everyone preaches verbs is:
1. it act's as close to the original media as you can get.
2.it doesn't use a cheap die that will quickly go bad.
3. cheap media makes the dvd drive's laser work harder and kills it allot faster, whereas verbs causes less stress and in turn makes the dvd drive put out less heat.

these are only a few reasons to buy verbs.

It usually says on the packaging, near the barcode, the country of manufacture.

LOL. Stop talking nonsense. My launch 360 wors perfectly after years of reading cheaper media. You're a sucker if you really believe that using other brands of media will kill your DVD drive.

No point bickering guys.

I must admit iv'e only ever used verbs, Over in the UK its works out to about 80/90p a disc which isnt bad really.

The general rule of thumb which is you get what you pay for applies here IMO. I cant see how cheaper media would damage the drive but can appreciate they are probably not as reliable/durable/as well built.

because they use crap die that degrades extremely fast. while verbs use high quality die, that has been proven to last significantly longer.

and why to make up a new name to come ask your stupid question RMF.

Not all cheaper brands are crappy, but it is just easier to go with known brand than to just try your luck. I have installed many linux distros and after few times im glad to spend few cents more on verbatim to avoid risk of installation errors that might bug me as long as i use that operating system.

For example my mr.platinium disks really lasted only the first installation and after that i got errors...i had to do hours of extra work before i figured it out (installation didnt give any errors but os wasn´t working like it should).

Not all 360 lasers are created equal. I've flashed hundreds of 360s and I know there is a difference. Many times I've seen lasers not read anything but Verbatim. Also I've seen lasers die quicker using other brands. I want to be cheap about the discs just like anyone else, but in the long run I know it's not worth it.

But how do you know that the drive failure had anything to do with the media? Lasers die all the time in all sorts of disc based devices.

I've used Memorex, Arita, currently using Emtec discs. I've used others also through the years but can't think off of the top of my head which other brands. I've never had a disc stop working through degredation. All of my backups work aswell as they did when they were first burnt.

And for the record, It's not usually my style to respond to someone in the manner that I did but I felt that the guys rude response to me was unnecessary and out of line.

EDIT: spelling
