i have an xbox i got from some guy that has some problems. When he gave it to me he said it had 2 red lights and would not display a picture. He said that if he wiggled the A/V cable in the back of the xbox he could sometimes get a picture. So i thought i would try to fix it and keep it. This box does NOT have and hdmi port and i know that my component cables are good because i just used them a few hours before i plugged in the box i was repairing. But when i got the box from the guy and hooked it up to my HDTV too see exactly what the issue was i saw it had 3 red rings. So i fixed that accordingly and tried to boot up the box after i finished the repair to make sure everything was working before i buttoned it up. When i turned it on for the first time after the repair (with the cables set to the correct TV or HD setting) I got sound but no picture. It just made the sound of the xbox booting up and did the green light flash around the circle like it normally does. I wiggled the connection like the guy had said he did and it didn't give me a picture (or give me 2 red lights like it does if i pull the A/V out completely). I can hear the clicking through the menus as i move the joysticks on the controller. I have already tried to reset the xbox display settings by holding RT trigger+Y and i know that it is resetting the xbox because i can see the green lights go through the boot up circle every time i hold the buttons to reset the display. Also i have pushed on the corners of each heatsink to make sure there was no issue about uneaven seating of the heatsinks. My tv just displays "no signal" no matter what I do.

I am tired of reading threads saying "my sons xbox broke and i read that if i wrap his xbox in 100% cotton towels for 20 mins..." *sigh*

I think the GPU might have kicked the bucket on this unit.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Bad video varies between the GPU and Hana/Ana chip. Reflowing is the only way to fix this. PM me if you are interested in a reflow.
