Got a small problem with R4I SDHC

HI i got a r4i like a month ago and i got a very small problem with it its about the sav files im not sue if is the software or if its faulty but whenever i import save files from the internet my r4i doesnt read them instead it starts a new game and i renamed the files exacly as they are in my roms folder and no luck i also use PPSE-DS which is a pokemon sav file editing software wen i edit my sav files in that software as well it either starts a new game or reads as corrupt and loads previous sav file i dont know exacly what type of r4i i got like r4i ultra/hyper so i'll type what it says on the box its a green box says R4I SDHC Revolution for DS (NDSI/NDSL/NDS) and has the official website micro sd usb 2.0 i am currently using kernal v1.54 is there like a chip update or something that will make it work or is there another compatible kernal version that will work i would appreciate any help i can get oh almost forgot im using a 2GB SD card formatted to FAT 32 i can format to fat as hardly any games load
