Strange Hitachi DVD drive problem.. Ideas??

Recently got a replacement drive for a hitachi that crapped out on me about a week ago(motor), after swapping the motherboards on the drive's, I lubricated everything and reassembled the drive. Completely stock drive, same motherboard, but when i insert an original game it reads it as a dvd and gives me the

"to play this disc, put it in an xbox 360 console"
In about 10 different languages

Now the strange thing is it reads dvd's and audio cd's and demo cd's first try, everytime, but cannot read a single full xbox game disc, 360 or original.
Tried adjusting the angle of the laser very slightly, and cleaning with rubbing alcohol, but to no avail. Still reads only dvd's, cd's, demo's ect. Possibly having trouble reading the key ON the disc? Again this happened with several different games.

Any idea's as to why im getting this error for ONLY xbox games?? Any advice is appreciated
