Hi,
I have 2 PS3 that I can power on, the led goes stable green, and I can shut it down properly.
But nothing appears on the screen !!
I tried :
- Changing TV/HDMI outputs with power selection
- changing TV
- Changing cables
- Changing HDD
- Formating HDD
- I applied the YLOD repair
But it still the same !!!
Do you have any clue ??

Instead of simply powering it on, you could try holding down the power button (for about ten-fifteen seconds), which should reset the video settings for you. (If you have an HDMI cable connected, it will automatically detect this and prompt you to optimize the video output.)
Try than and let us know if it works or doesn't.

I did it, that's what I called "Changing TV/HDMI outputs with power selection "
No result !
I kept it pushed a bit longer than the 5 s and it should be the recovery setup, but it never shows up, PS3 always shuts down.

Yes, after it shuts off, you should restart it and the default settings will take effect. (Should've mentioned that; my bad.)
Other than that, the only thing I would be able to suggest is to do the reset and output the video using the packaged A/V cables (red/white/yellow).
But besides that, I'm not very sure.

Yes but It should only shut down the first time, if you do it twice youshould get into the recovery setup, which is not the case.
I have both HDMI and TV cable and its the same : NOTHING !!

I take it this is the repair where you use a heat gun on the mainboard? I also take it you tried all the other steps first? Did you have a YLOD that is now green thanks to the fix?
Do you hear the startup sound from your speakers when you turn the unit on?

I gave a try on the YLOD repair last, thinking the motherboard was down and that is why nothing happens.
Yes I used the heatgun technic with flux and so on, as I usually do on the others PS3 I repair and they work.
The other point is that it heats a lot !!
No there is no sound on speakers !
I got my oscilloscope back in service !
I put it on a few test points on the mother board and I didn't see any activity on signals, but it shuts down very quickly due to overheat protection.

hey guys i thought i would post on this thread instead of making a whole other one so i have an issue
my ps3 shut off too!!!
i was playing Modern Warfare 2 and my 3 just turned off. i switched it off from the back and turned it back on but the power light just flashes red. I don't get a blinking green or yellow light just a blinking red light...according to the manual i just need to let it cool down but according to some threads on this site and others the hard drive or the ps3 hardware may be messed up. i know theres probably not much to say about this other than to let it cool down but this sucks...

IF it does work once it cools down, there are things you can do to fix it. The stock cooling is not very good; and is not always assembled very well either. Check out this thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-153/...erboard-809486/

I guess overheat protection and all thoses power up /down sequences seem to be handled by some piece of hardware.
Because my PS3 seems to bee completly dead but these sequences are working.
If processor / GPU heat seem to be :
- they are internally dead
- there can be short circuits on BGA balls
- power supplies are missing /wrong values.
