Are you able to tell by looking at the wire on the front of the DVD drive if it's a new unflashable Lite On or will it be yellow as well?

No. You need to look at the label on the drive.

You could prob guess, judging by the MFR date on the back of the console. I think from what I read somewhere, all consoles manufactured after september 2009 have new lite-on. Could be mistaken so don't hold me to it... lol

Yeh I was told it's any time after August 09 but I was just wondering if there's any way to find out for sure without removing the drive but I guess not

That is correct, but they did not put all V2 lite-on's in those xboxes. Just take it a part and look.
