I have done a few searches and not found a definitive answer to this. I have recently been having trouble dumping games with rawdump 2.0 and tried friidump with same results. gets halfway through and stops with an error. I saw you can also do them over wireless with homebrew channel and wondered is I can install homebrew channel with my modchip already installed...will this cause a conflict?? any special steps I need to take?? Thanks in advance for any help

Modchips and homebrew have nothing to do with each other. There won't be any conflicts. Just follow the same guides as someone with an unmodded wii.

What do you want to do exactly? If you just want to play classic games on emulators then you just need the homebrew channel.

If you want to install wads or use a USB loader then you need the cIOS's.

I want to use homebrew channel to run emulators and also to dump/backup games via the wifi because I am having trouble with rawdump stopping halfway through all game dumps recently after it had worked for 2 years. Is everything else after the homebrew install just to play backups or use a USB drive to play games from?? Do I need to do the rest of guide so homebrew channel is not affected by my 4.2u firmware? I just want to be sure before I start messing with it. Thanks for the replies.

Emulators do not require any firmware patches but disk dumping does. I missed you saying that in the first post, sorry.

Also, since you're on firmware 4.2, that guide won't work for you anyway. I should have asked what firmware you were on as well. Follow this guide to install the homebrew channel and custom firmwares on 4.2.
