Hi there i have successfully installed a drivekey into wii , it will play original games but not back ups and also the wii is asking to be updated, Please can anybody help, is it anything to do with the drivekey select options?
Hi, I have the same issue. Installed drivekey all original games work, when back up copy inserted meeage comes up saying "software upgrade needed to play disk, if any unauthorized mdifications have been done might cause console not to work properly" Not sure what to do, do I need to try and configure drivekey?
You can disable the updates on the chip settings but this was causing a few of my games not to work, so I just enabled it and as I said it all works fine. But I am completely new to all this and learning by trial and error! lol
some wii games require a firmware update to play, and some games just require a new IOS file that you may not have on your system.
The only worries you would have about updating from a disc are:
If it is out of region, meaning you have a ntsc console and are trying to update with a pal disc. This is bad so dont do it.
Some firmware updates block certain games from playing on sotmodded systems but should not affect you if you are using the mod chip to load games.
Even if the updates blocks some homebrew from running they are always finding new ways around it so your never stuck for long.
If your not using a softmod or playing around with the homebrew channel and installing wad files, and the disc is from your region you are safe to update.
I imagine if you searched there is a program out there that will look inside the extracted .iso image and tell you if it is pal or ntsc but I am not familiar with any of them.
