Hello. I'm getting Wii in next few days. This will be my first time modding Wii.

I've tried to search across the forum but my questions that I about to ask is buried long time ago... I think. Since it's really basic newbie questions.
Greatly appreciated if you can answer some of my questions.

1. Reading some of the info, firmware upgrade is done via connecting to online. I want to play Wii online. What is my option?
Softmod?(Which I believe its impossible at the moment.. possible in future? or was it that 4.2 is possible but people suggest 4.1 for region free?)
Hardmod?(If so, please provide me which kind is needed.)

2. Is there any advice I need for getting a new Wii system? (IE. Imcompatible drive/issues for certain models or whatnot)

BTW, if you are in USA, Walmart is selling Wii+50GC for $200. Starting 5th I believe.

i use a Solderless D2Sun v1.5 D2E from modsupplier.com it works online and i can update
